Default Cubs moving from Mesa, AZ to Naples, FL?

http://www.naplesnews.com/news/2009/...t-spring-trai/

While I wish this were the White Sox, this would be great for the area. It can certainly support a 3rd team. Plus I know it would make my wife happy.

Thye are just trying to leverage AZ into a better deal with the talk of moving to FL. From most of what I've read, AZ will really have to mess this up for them to move.

I think it may be more than just leverage. Collier County has been trying to get a team for years and the Ricketts supposedly have a tie to Southwest Florida.

I believe the Cubs would be a larger draw here than in Arizona. There are more transplanted Chicagoans here than in Arizona, there are more people in Florida during the end of February and March here than in Arizona and you also have Miami and Ft Lauderdale only a 1.5 hour drive from Naples to bring in more fans from the East Coast.

Vero Beach has been trying to grab a team for a while now...That would kill my old man if they showed up there. LOL

The Cubs are the big fish an AZ, in FL they would have to compete with both NY teams and the Red Sox. I don't see any way AZ will allow them to move unless FL offers something rediculous.

I really don't see that as a problem. The Yankees and Mets are each about 200 miles away. Sure, the Red Sox are in the same region but there is more than enough people here to support all three teams (Twins). Collier County is prepared to give the Cubs whatever they request and I think that is why Mesa is taking this as a serious threat.

I think it's more of an AZ won't risk losing them more than the Cubs will not go. I think when push comes to shove AZ will step up and match whatever FL offers to the Cubs so they will stay put.
