Major League Baseball Bonds opens playroom

SAN FRANCISCO -- Barry Bonds handed out T-shirts, posed for pictures and romped with young patients as a San Francisco hospital opened a playroom bearing his name.

The ribbon-cutting ceremony for the Barry Bonds Family Foundation Playroom was Friday at the UCSF Medical Center.

According to Roxanne Fernandes, executive director of UCSF Children's Hospital, Bonds paid for the renovation himself at a cost of nearly $250,000. The new surroundings include a flat-screen television and audio system, an arts and crafts table and several toys.

The home run king, who has not played since 2007, told a crowd assembled outside the playroom that he hoped it would provide children a place to relax while staying at the hospital.

No they were not muscle shirts and there were no kids with sixpacks or big biceps playing in the new playroom. Even if he had to put his name on it, it looks like he is trying to do good...as opposed to not.

I just wonder if the white leather recliner he used to have at his locker went along with the flat screen TV he also had at his locker when he donated that stuff??

I can't fault Bonds here at all. 250 Grand...damn. Nice to see signs of him being a decent human from time to time...

I'm still waiting for the public spin to somehow paint him as a monster on this issue (he's probably opening the playroom so he could have easy access to suck the marrow out of kids or something like that)

There are a lot of people that donate a lot of money/time without putting their names on things.

There are also a lot of people who make a boatload of cash who do nothing.

I can't bag on Bonds in this instance.

This is a nice gesture on his part.

Also Bonds isn't the first nor the last person to donate a lot of money to something and get his name placed on it. Regular rich folks do it all the time.
