ALLEN PARK -- Bob Quinn was the director of New England's pro scouting when the Patriots traded for Keshawn Martin in 2015. Now he's bringing the receiver back home to Detroit.
The Lions announced Saturday they have reached a free-agent deal with the Inkster native and former Michigan State star.
Martin was a do-everything weapon while in East Lansing, finishing his career in the top 10 in school history in punt return yards (second), kick return yards (eighth) and all-purpose yards (10th). He also scored touchdowns five different ways -- rushing, receiving, passing, punt return and kick return.

He was selected by Houston in the fourth round of the 2012 draft, but never really lived up to the potential, snagging just 38 passes in his first three seasons. He was traded to New England in 2015, where he had his best year as a receiver, catching 24 passes for 269 yards.
He played in just one game for San Francisco last season because of a hamstring injury.
Martin is the sixth free agent lured to Detroit, following right tackle Rick Wagner, linebacker Paul Worrilow, defensive end Cornelius Washington, defensive tackle Akeem Spence and cornerback D.J. Hayden. He will compete for a depth job behind Golden Tate and Marvin Jones, and could also vie for return duties.
Anquan Boldin, who was Detroit's No. 3 receiver last year, and Andre Roberts, who was the No. 4 receiver and top return man, are both free agents.
Martin has averaged 25 yards on 80 kick returns in his career, with six of at least 40 yards. He's averaged 9.1 yards on 94 punt returns, with four of at least 40 yards and one touchdown.
