After reaching the playoffs for the second time in three seasons, Troy Aikman thinks the Detroit Lions are on a path similar to the one that led the Atlanta Falcons to Super Bowl LI.
The oddsmakers aren't as confident.
Bovada.lv has released its Super Bowl odds for next season and has the Lions at 40-1. That's tied with Baltimore and Houston for the 16th-longest odds in the NFL.
Odds of Detroit Lions winning 2017 Super Bowl open at 33-1By comparison, the Lions were 33-1 to win the Super Bowl a year ago this week despite coming off a 7-9 season. That said, missing the playoffs in 2015 gave them a more favorable schedule last season, when they went 9-7 after a 1-3 start.
That's tied for 13th among the NFL's 32 teams.
Two years ago, the Lions were coming off an 11-5 season yet were 30-1 to win the 2016 Super Bowl. That marked the second straight year they were 30-1.
So based on the odds, they seem to be further away from winning the Super Bowl than Aikman thinks.
