Braves Looking forward to 2017 season, trades, rumors, deals

Hopefully the Braves will be far more competitive. The addition of Kemp has improved the lineup depth.

I am OK with a catching duo of Flowers and Recker. If a "power" catcher falls in the Braves lap, I would be more inclined to believe the Braves are contenders.

I would look for a "power" 2B alla Murphy/Walker. Get rid of POS and make Peterson the new Infante, all around utility guy.

Pitching is now a disaster, and appears to probably continue into '17. A relief core of Krol, Simmons(if he shows old form), Ramirez, Cabrera gives a short base on which to build. Starting rotation has 2-3 BIG holes. Teheran, Folty and maybe Wisler for 1-2-3, leaving 2 definite open spots. A big time innings eater, top of rotation guy would definitely be a big welcome.

I hope the Braves spend new salary space on pitching!!!!!

Roe should be off the 40 man roster as well as EOF. EOF had season ending surgery on left arm a couple of days ago and can't throw for at least 2 months.

    Please dump POs.

Add d'Arnaud as another super utility guy especially as back up SS.

Roster for position players starts with Freddie, Peterson, d'Arnaud, Swanson, Garcia, Kemp, Markakis, Inciarte, Recker, Flowers,

Possible adds include Smith, Snyder, Ruiz from the system.

Will be a lot of interesting decisions to be made for sure.

The pen will have a chance to be downright nasty good. A lot of options from within. But will need at keast 1veteran influence.

Will post some other thoughts over the long weekend

Curly has secured the SS position. While in DC, he hit his 1st MLB HR, an inside the park job then followed ti with a shot to LCF seats about 6 rows deep the next game. Hope he doesn't pull a Fural.

Swanson has locked down the SS position even though he's no Furcal or Simmons with the glove, closer to Aybar. His bat is far better than Aybar.

Kemp has added depth to the line up, and could move back to RF if he loses about 12-15 pounds and Markakis is dealt. Mallex would move into starting LF.

Chip, Joe and Tim were really talking up Prado to Hart while he was in the booth the other day. Prado is a FA after this year.

Hart alluded to getting a true #1 starter off the FA market. Doesn't look like much talent in that respect .

Well, Prado is staying with the Fish.

Kemp has made Freeman much better. A legit power guy protecting Freeman has done wonders for this team. Hopefully Kemp will get in better shape in the off-season. Really like this team... of course pitching is a concern.

Don't see Swanson pulling a Furcal. He continues to have his one big swing, but then shortens it up and makes solid contact.

Not shocked JJ will be back. Gives a vet in the pen fir what will likely overall be a younger group. But the group will have a lot of potential for sure. He gives you a guy who can close or setup depending on what is needed most.

FWIW --- Swanson maintains rookie status for 2017. Had 129 total ABs in 2016.

Snitker says Garcia's job at 3B is his to lose next spring training.

IMO, Perez, DeLaCruz, Gant and possibly Wisler won't make Braves 25 man opening day roster in '17.

Ruiz, Lalli, Castro, Bonifacio and possibly Snyder won't make opening day roster.

Why go outside when the players are calling for Snitker to remain manager?

The way Roe closed out the season, he'll be a mainstay in the BP in '17.

Still don't understand why --- the current Braves players are behind Snitckers almost to a man!!!

WEDNESDAY: Washington will sit down with the Atlanta brass today, Jim Bowden of ESPN.com tweets.
MONDAY: The Braves will interview Ron Washington and Bud Black for their managerial vacancy, MLB.com’s Mark Bowman (all Twitter links). At last check, the Braves had already interviewed four internal candidates: interim manager Brian Snitker, bench coach Terry Pendleton, first base coach Eddie Perez and third base coach Bo Porter.

According to Coppy, the Braves are looking at adding 2 possibly 3 starting pitchers. Julio is a lock, but not at #1 if a true #1 can be had. Folty could slip to 4 or 5 depending on what the Braves are able to add. Wisler, according to Hart took a big step backwards.

They are also looking to add a LHH catcher to pair with Flowers. IF 1 can't be found, they would be happy to go with Recker.

    Interesting article at AJC.

I don't understand. I'm not a Snitkers fan, but if Freddie and most others praise him, then the front office should pay attention. I'm even a less fan of Black. But. he has "inside" track because of Hart. I can't find his record at SD, but I don't think he has a winning record.

    From Jim Bowden at EPSN

Bud Black is the front runner for the Atlanta Braves managerial opening according to a source involved in their search. With the Braves Farm System loaded with top pitching prospects and Black's long successful track record of handling, developing and procuring arms, he certainly appears to be the best fit of all the candidates they've interviewed to date. Black's ability to win one run games in his previous stint as San Diego Padres skipper helps as well. Black also has a strong personal and professional relationship with team President John Hart. Black has exceptional people skills and relates well with both field and front office personnel. The Braves also have interviewed Ron Washington, Bo Porter, Eddie Perez, Terry Pendleton and Brian Snitker.

    McDoWell gone---

    David O'Brien ‏@DOBrienAJC
#Braves have declined to pick up 2017 contract option on pitching coach Roger McDowell's contract.

    David O'Brien ‏@DOBrienAJC
#Braves have not been satisfied with improvement of their young pitchers under McDowell, this season and previous years.

    David O'Brien ‏@DOBrienAJC
Would think #Braves might consider Marty Reed, more so if Snitker is kept as manager. If Black is manager, probably bring his own PC.

    David O'Brien ‏@DOBrienAJC
#Braves other coaches haven't been notified yet of their status.

    Bradley claimed by Os

As for Bradley, the former top prospect and first-round pick (15th overall by the Brewers in 2011) made his Major League debut with Atlanta this season, yielding four runs on seven hits and six walks (two intentional) with four strikeouts in seven innings for the Braves. Bradley’s career never took off as the Brewers hoped, as he moved from the rotation to the bullpen in the minors and struggled a great deal between Double-A and Triple-A in 2015. However, Bradley logged a 3.09 earned run average with 108 strikeouts against 40 walks in 107 2/3 innings between the rotation and bullpen at Triple-A this year (13 starts, 22 relief appearances) and will give the Orioles some needed left-handed depth in the organization if he survives the winter on Baltimore’s 40-man roster.
