Braves Game 1 vs Nats, series preview

as Detwiler goes against Delgado at 7:35 on Peachtree.

Delgado didn't get out of the 2nd inning his last start and has really looked lost on the mound most of the season thus far. And in game 2 we have the other half of zFrick and Frack-- Minor. Both of these guys don't belong in Atl, and Minor doesn't even belong in the Braves organization IMO.

    From Rogers at AJC--

    Next for Braves: Washington Nationals

8:47 pm June 28, 2012, by Carroll Rogers
    Series preview: vs. Nationals
    When (TV): 7:35 p.m. Friday (WPCH), 4:05 p.m. Saturday (WPCH), 1:35 p.m. Sunday (FSSO)
    Radio: 680, 93.7, 100.5
    Probable starting pitchers:
Friday: Braves RH Randall Delgado (4-8, 4.52 ERA) vs. LH Ross Detweiler (4-3, 3.09)
Saturday: Braves LH Mike Minor (3-6, 6.14) vs. RH Stephen Strasburg (9-2, 2.60)
Sunday: Braves RH Tim Hudson (6-3, 3.58) vs. LH Gio Gonzalez (10-3, 2.78)
    About the Braves:
Batting: Jason Heyward had a career-high 12-game hitting streak entering Thursdayís game, while hitting .455 (20-for-44) with 11 runs scored, four home runs and seven RBIs. Heyward had hit safely in 20 of his previous 24 games and was second in the majors with a .395 batting average in June. Chipper Jones homered Wednesday night to give him 252 homers at home games as a Brave. That moved him past Lou Gehrig and into a 12th place tie with Stan Musial in home-game homers for one team, according to Elias Sports Bureau.
Pitching: The young pitching duo of Delgado and Minor has combined to go 0-4 with a 6.41 ERA in their past four turns in the rotation. Delgado didnít make it out of the second inning his last time out, going 1 1/3 innings and giving up four runs in an 8-4 loss to Boston. He pitched eighth solid innings the outing before and still lost to Baltimore. Delgado is 2-4 with a 3.59 ERA at Turner Field this season, compared to 2-4 with a 5.73 ERA on the road.
Miscellaneous: The Braves have lost four out of five games to the first-place Nationals this season, getting their first win in the last meeting on June 3 in Washington when Tommy Hanson outpitched Gio Gonzalez.
    About the Nationals:
Batting: First baseman/outfielder Tyler Moore is hitting 16-for-37 with three doubles, four home runs, 10 runs, 10 RBIs and three stolen bases in 12 games since he was recalled from Triple-A Syracuse on June 7. The Nationals are 8-4 since his arrival. They have scored 33 runs in their past three games at Coors Field, though they lost 11-10 in 11 innings on Thursday.
Pitching: The Nationals have a 2.60 ERA against the Braves this season, allowing no more than four runs in a game, while holding Braves hitters to a .239 batting average. Detwiler just returned to the rotation, replacing the struggling Chien-Ming Wang, and threw five shutout innings against Baltimore in a 2-1 loss. Martin Prado is 6-for-12 with three doubles and a triple against Detwiler. Jack Wilson is 4-for-5 with a double against him.
Miscellaneous: Since struggling third baseman Ryan Zimmerman received a cortisone shot in his ailing shoulder on Sunday, he has gone 9-for-23 (.391) with two home runs and eight RBIs in five games.

Prado has a "minor" hamstring thing according to the radio. So he might miss more than tonight.

On Prado and Hammy from AJC-- DOB

Prado out of lineup, nursing sore hamstring
7:30 pm June 29, 2012, by Carroll Rogers

Martin Prado was another noticeable absence from the Braves lineup on Friday night. Manager Fredi Gonzalez revealed Prado has been playing with a sore hamstring and he wanted to sit him a game to rest it.

He said he noticed Prado favoring it quite a bit on Thursday night in left field and running the bases.

“He’s trying to manage it,” Gonzalez said. “But these guys are athletes and all of a sudden they want to go an extra step and get really, really bad.”

Gonzalez is hoping that by giving Prado a day off here and there until the All-Star break and resting for four days off over the break, he can avoid a stint on the disabled list.

Gonzalez moved Jason Heyward into the third spot in Prado’s absence, where Heyward was hitting for the third time this season. He moved rookie Andrelton Simmons to the second spot for the first time. Simmons played his first 23 games in the majors in the bottom third of the order.

“Use (his) speed and sandwich him between (left-handers Michael) Bourn-y and Heyward there,” Gonzalez said. “What is he about .310 now?”

Actually, Simmons was hitting .321 entering Friday night.

Looking ahead, Gonzalez said he plans to give Chipper Jones a rest on Saturday against right-hander Stephen Strasburg and give Brian McCann a day off on Sunday against left-hander Gio Gonzalez. He plans to play Juan Francisco at third base Saturday. He went 2-for-2 with an RBI off Strasburg on May 26.

McCann has been awful at the plate this year. And not so good behind the plate... I understand it will never happen, but he needs to be traded (that is if he has any value left).

shocked to see Delgado bunting with 2 strikes... seeing how he couldn't get the bunt down on the first two attempts.

Well, I thought Delgado would come out better than this. Sounds like the top of the 3rd did him no favors.

And with Minor v Strasburg tomorrow...uh-oh.
