Cardinals Cards vs. Phillies 7/9/08: The Return of Mulder

Don't have the lineups yet, but thought that we could start the discussion a bit early.

Anybody want to guess what Mulder's line will look like tonight? I'll say 5 IP, 8 H, 4 ER, 2 BB, 0 SO. But I may change that later, depending on how optimistic I'm feeling.

If Mark can give us 5 or 6 innings and allow 3 runs I'll be happy. And keep the walks to a minimum, of course.

If our Phillies continue to (not) hit anything like against Pineiro last night, It will look like this 7 IP, 3 H, 0 B, 7 K, 0 ER. Helped out by 3 DP's
But I do not expect that again. Your lines are more realistic.

Yeah I'd like that but I'm definitely not counting on it. The Phils have too much fire power to be down for too long.

And with Mulder I take everything with a grain of salt and try not to get too excited because you never know when he'll get hurt again or just flat out suck.

That would be awesome. Mark Mulder's psyche would appreciate it. And so would we.

Getting Mulder anywhere close to where he used to be would be amazing.

By the way, Strauss says that Mulder will be on a 75-80 pitch limit, so pick your innings accordingly.

Close to mine, but yours might be tough w/ 75-80 pitch count, unless most of the Ks are 3 pitches.

He's thrown a complete game or two for the Cards with pitch counts not too much higher than that, so I guess it's possible.

I've changed my mind on Mulder...he's either...

#1: Gonna get rocked and make us all cry and wish the real Mark Mulder would please stand up.

#2: Do awesome, impress us all, and give us false hope that the real Mark Mulder has just shown up.

    I am going to say 5 IP 7 hits, 4-5 runs, 1 BB, 4K's

Overall that i probably would consider 1/2 successful considering who he is pitching against and where it is taking place.

That's far more optimistic than what I expected from you, CG! You take your meds today?

Start of the game is going to be delayed by rain. Rooney says that it may get started between 7 and 7:30 Central.

Bad luck for ESPN -- the Yankees and the Red Sox have already played, so they can't move the broadcast to one of those games.
