The right-hander blazed through the week for the Phoenix Desert Dogs, on his way to being named Pitcher of the Week for Oct. 11-17. Howard shared the Player of the Week honors with Grand Canyon Rafters outfielder Chris Shelton.
Bucktrot, a third-round pick in the June 2000 First-Year Player Draft, pitched seven innings over two starts and allowed one earned run on eight hits. His performance helped the first-place Desert Dogs to an 8-4 start in the three-team National Division.
The 23-year-old struggled at Double-A this season, going 4-7 with a 4.87 ERA in 20 starts. In 105 1/3 innings, he allowed 140 hits, including 16 homers. He walked 39 and struck out 60. For the Desert Dogs, Bucktrot has logged a total of 10 innings over three starts, giving up just the one run on 10 hits for an 0.90 ERA.
