EL SEGUNDO, Calif. (AP) - Kings (http://msn.foxsports.com/nhl/team/66307) defenseman Aaron Miller (http://msn.foxsports.com/nhl/player/66512) is unable to play for the U.S. hockey team at the Turin Olympics because of a back injury.
Miller, a member of the silver medalist American team at the 2002 Olympics, missed 16 games this season as a result of his injury."I took five weeks out of the season to rest it and get it back to a point where I could at least contribute a little bit," he said after practice Sunday. "But it still continues to be an issue. I just feel I need to use that time to get healthy. It would be selfish of me to go over there."
Olympic team officials will discuss replacements Monday.
The back injury forced the 34-year-old Miller from the Los Angeles lineup from Dec. 23 to Jan. 24. He has played four games since returning.
"It's always an honor to be picked," Miller said. "You have to know that you can contribute 100 percent, you can't go over there with any doubts in your mind. I need to get the rest and try and get as healthy as I can."
