Anyone up to doing this one again? i rather liked this thread when it was up last time
My vote is for the bullpen, edmonds and pujols as honorable mention... carp goes down and we get 7 2/3 shutout innings.
If i had the time i'd do it, but i don't, so i'm shamelessly polling for someone to do it again lol

We only used to do player of the game for wins, but if you guys want to do it every game that's alright with me.
The announcers said that the online poll said Pujols, even though we didn't win.

hey i'm not running this i just started the thread because i loved the concept, only for wins works for me
brianpnoonan
08-14-2004, 06:28 PM
also possible to add to the pepe le pew total every time we lose lol

We did that for awhile, Goat of the Game.
Not many goats this year, with the best record in MLB. Pitching would have been the goat today.

eh ok... POG in wins it is... if someone wants to do goats they can do goats

No POG for the game yesterday?
How about Matt Morris?
ryr8828
08-18-2004, 06:56 PM
Yeah guys, show Matt some love. He pitched his heart out. 2 BB, 6 K.
He got his era down to 4.67. (That isn't a sarcastic comment even though it may appear to be.)

It's tough between Morris and Womack. I mean, our freakin leadoff hitter took a walk (driving in the winning run no less). That's a complete 180 from last year's leadoff hitter.
I'd give it to Morris though. Hopefully he doesn't see this and think that he's some sort of pitching god now.

Come on guys, we win a doubleheader and no nominations?
I'll give mine in a little bit.

It's becoming tougher to give out POG's as the offense & pitching continues to dominate.
Today (Sat.) Rolen & Matheny each had a homer & 3 RBI, while Renteria had 3 hits.
Tough call.
I would say Rolen since it was the first 3 runs we scored & I like him better than Matheny.

Carp should have got it tongiht against the reds, but the offense decided to take another night off....

ok, since this thread hasn't been touched in a while, and since this board isn't hopping enough lately, figured I would add my two cents into here.
first off, I'm a fan of Bill James win shares, which basically say that a win share is 1/3rd of a win, so for pog, I feel it's appropriate to give up to 3 potg points.
Sunday 6-5(11) dodgers, (1)Reggie Sanders, (1) Luna, and (1) Edmonds(with apologies to any of the pitchers except issy who needs to apologize)
Saturday 5-1 dodgers, (1)Marquis, (1) Edmonds, and (1) Rolen
Friday 3-0 dodgers (2)Morris, (1) Sanders
Thursday 7-2 Padres (1)Suppan, (1) Edmonds, (1) Pujols
Wednesday 4-2 Padres (1)Carpenter, (1)Walker (1) Pujols
Tuesday 9-3 Padres (1) Pujols, (1) Edmonds, (1) Renteria
this is going mostly by the box scores, so it's very possible that I may have overvalued a contribution or fogot a memorable peformance, especially among the relief pitchers and defense (example Molinas plays at the plate) but oh well just wanted to get this thread revitalized.

well since we didn't get a reply I'll just keep giving my recommendations until someone complains.
Rick(1), Renteria (1) and Cedeno(1) 9-7-04 vs Padres (4-2)
rick just for making an appearance cedeno and renteria for doing all the work with the bat(including a pinch hit 2 rbi double by cedeno)

for the game that we beat the Dodgers in Dodger stadium It looks like the Pog is Larry Walker(2) and Ray King(1) Walker is obvious, a couple of homeruns, a double, single (although I think if he was hustling out of the gate he could have turned that double into a triple.) King gets the props for pitching a good game but more importantly for watching him motor around the basepaths after an error on his at bat.
It's a game, we have to enjoy it, I considered Luna for playing well in the series in place of Rolen.

In the toughest decision I've had to make in a little while the potg for Sep 15th victory over the Astros....
drumroll please......
continue drumroll to add tension.....(after all I know that many of you are waiting up all day for the results of this purely pull it out of my ass award)
this is tough, I really need 5 spots I think, but heck we have to keep it somewhat rational.
Edmonds(1) obvious of course, Morris(1) great pitching after the second inning, and the tough one, in a four way fight I give it to Renteria(1) just for getting out of that horrible slump(with apologies to other fine applicants for the award, Albert is probably the most actual deserving, 2 hits, good baserunning etc, but heck he'll win about 10 more before the end of the season, and hopefully shares of 11 more in the post season.)

since I didn't watch all of the games, I'm going by the box score,
Potg for sep 18th, 7-0 vs D-backs, Matheny(1), Womack(1) and Haren(1)
POTG for sep 17th, 4-3 over D-backs, Matheny(1), Mabry(1), Woody(1)
need to get people more vocal on these picks each and every game. I know that not many could be playing in the arcade, since I'm not allowed in there right now, I know many of you others can't get in there either. :)

You guys are a hell of a club but somehow we got a W tonight. I say Dave Krynzel is the player of the game for tonight. You guys will kill us tomorrow. Lil Ben Hendrickson is pitching. Best of luck in the playoffs. KILL THE YANKEES!!

Can you loan us Ben Sheets and dress him up where he looks like Matt Morris or Jeff Suppan?
Send that Posednik kid over too.
