The Nashville Predators and Carolina Hurricanes meet tonight for the only time this season. The game, which faces off at 6 p.m. CT at the RBC Center in Raleigh, N.C., will be televised locally on FSN South and broadcast on 104.5 FM The Zone.
The last time the two clubs met, Scott Harntell scored the game-winner at 3:30 of overtime in Nashville's 2-1 win at the RBC Center on December 3, 2003. The Predators have gone unbeaten (2-0-1) in their last three trips to the RBC Center and are 5-3-1 all-time vs. the Hurricanes.
Nashville has earned at least a point in each of its last three road games (2-0-1) and is coming off a 4-3 shootout loss to the Atlanta Thrashers on Wednesday night at Philips Arena. Tonight is the third game of five straight contests vs. the East for Nashville. The Predators, who are 3-3-1 vs. the Eastern Conference, will close out the final 35 games of the season vs. the West, including 18 games vs. the Central Division.
Carolina leads the Southeast Division and will host Nashville in the second game of a three-game homestand. The Hurricanes own the best home record in the NHL at 18-4-1, and have earned points in each of their last 10 home games. The club enters tonight's match on a five-game winning streak, and is led by second-year forward Eric Staal, who is currently ranked ninth in the league in scoring (26g-28a-54pts) and is tied for seventh in goals.
Marek Zidlicky registered his eighth multi-point game of the season with two assists at Atlanta on Wednesday night. Zidlicky (9g-22a-31pts), who leads team blueliners and ranks among NHL defensemen scoring leaders, has posted 28 points (7g-21a) over his last 28 games. Zidlicky is also tied with Yanic Perreault (17g-14a-31pts) for third in team scoring. Perreault has 17 points (10g-7a) in his last 16 games, including two two-goal games in his last three contests. Perreault leads the NHL (300 or more draws) in face-off winning percentage (62.8%, 328-194)… Steve Sullivan, who leads the team in scoring (21g-19a-40pts), is on a three-game point streak (3g-2a-5pts) and has 20 points (12g-8a) in his last 19 games… Paul Kariya, who skated in his 700th career NHL game at Altanta, leads the team in assist (26), ranks second in scoring (13g-26a-39pts) and is tied for third on the club in goals (13)… Vern Fiddler has five points (3g-2a) in his last five games… Darcy Hordichuk, who scored his fourth goal of the season on Wednesday, leads the team in hits (94) and is tied for the team lead with a +8 rating… Defenseman Mark Eaton leads the team in blocked shots (95) and ranks among NHL leaders in average shorthanded ice time per game (5:38). Eaton logged a season-high 24:30 at Atlanta.
