Thrashers Activate Goaltender Mike Dunham from Injured Reserve; Reassign Goaltender Michael Garnett to Chicago (AHL)
ATLANTA (Jan. 12, 2006) -- The Atlanta Thrashers have activated goaltender Mike Dunham from injured reserve (groin), and reassigned goaltender Michael Garnett to the Chicago Wolves of the American Hockey League, according to Executive Vice President and General Manager Don Waddell. The team's active roster now stands at 21, with an additional three players on Injured Reserve.

Dunham, 33, has missed 34 games this season, including the last 28 contests from Nov. 16-Jan. 11, with groin injuries. The 6-2, 190-pound goaltender has posted a 4-3-1 record with one shutout and a 2.10 goals-against average in eight games with Atlanta this season. The native of Johnson City, N.Y., has registered a 133-166-40 record, 19 shutouts and a 2.68 GAA in 366 NHL games with New Jersey, Nashville, the New York Rangers and Atlanta.

Garnett, 23, leads Thrashers goaltenders with 10 wins, two shutouts, 20 starts, 23 games, 629 shots, 557 saves and 1,255 minutes. The 6-1, 205-pound goalie set a franchise-record scoreless streak of 151:55 from Dec. 22-28, including the first back-to-back shutouts by a goalie in Thrashers history from Dec. 23-26. The native of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan has posted an 0-2-2 record and a 4.41 GAA in four games with Chicago this season and is 18-15-2 with a 2.96 GAA in 43 career AHL games.

It was good experience for Garnett but having a more experienced goalie to backup Kari makes me feel better. Hopefully, he won't have too much rust to contend with....though I know that's not the case.
