Predators on the PP
phhhhhhhhhhewww! Oilers hit it off the post...
So, you get the calves other farmers don't want? It we get a little pisser, we usually get it to my grandpa and let him raise it,
Currently I finally got a chance to raise a holstein steer. His name is Napoleon, he's a dummy. My dad pets him and he's a retard. Good size though, for only 8 months, 550+.
Make a good living off that?
oh, and.......go preds

The dairy farmers look to get rid of the "boy" calves. I can buy them relatively cheap. Bottle feed them and then start them on grain and then turn them into the pasture (still grain feeding though in addition to pasture). I've only lost two in that time frame and one was sick when I got him. Worked my butt off trying to nurse him to health. I've lost ONE to lightening of all things. He got struck when I was on vacation.
The Holsteins are fun for me. I buy them when they are about a week old then raise them to be some fine looking stock for market.
The angus are my "prize possesions" but I like them all to be truthful. I wasn't raised on a farm (I lived in town) but have been doing this for about 4 years now. It's a nice extra income (and tax deduction) but hard work.

I know all about raising calves. we have 6 animals due in jan. It is fun to see them develop, but when they get big, they better produce.
BTW, I don't have a crush on either of you ladies. Believe it or not, goodness, can't think of real reasons I like to make fun of people...lol
