Kari Lehtonen from Injured ReserveATLANTA (Dec. 26, 2005) -- The Atlanta Thrashers have activated goaltender Kari Lehtonen from injured reserve (groin), according to Executive Vice President and General Manager Don Waddell. The team’s active roster now stands at 21, with an additional four players on Injured Reserve.

Lehtonen, who left the season-opener at Florida on Oct. 5 after the first period with an injured groin, has missed the last 35 games. The 6-4, 195-pound goaltender, who was drafted by Atlanta in the first round, second overall, in the 2002 Entry Draft, made his NHL debut with the Thrashers on March 19, 2004, and posted a 4-0-0 record in four appearances that season, earning a 1.25 goals-against average and one shutout.

The native of Helsinki, Finland, played in 57 games with Chicago (AHL) last season, earning a 38-17-2 record, a 2.21 GAA and a .929 save percentage. Lehtonen, who ranked second in the league in wins, also posted a 10-6 playoff record and 1.71 GAA with two shutouts to lead the Wolves to the Calder Cup Finals.

During his first professional season in North America in 2003-04, he appeared in 39 games with Chicago and posted a 20-14-2 record with a 2.41 GAA. After his recall to Atlanta, he returned to the Wolves for the playoffs and earned a 6-4 record and a 2.08 GAA.
