Since it is unlikely that we sign Polanco, how about Craig Counsell? The Brewers let him go and I think he'd be a great addition to our bench. Just my opinion.

Who said we aren't going to re-sign Polanco, last I heard we were going too and he was ok with it. We should re-sign Polanco for 4 Mil or close to it a year, he is worth it, we need him on our bench. Think about having him as our back up for Bell, or Utley, the guy is a major asset.

I'd like to have Placido back on the Cards as our 2bman. Womack did great this year but his career numbers suggest he isn't that good.
I watched Polanco a lot, he can play ss with anybody.
I don't think the Cards will pony up the money though.

Ah, see, only the smart people realize how good Polanco has been for the last two years, 4 Mil is a lot for a guy who is going to sit on the bench. Whoever gets him will have a good asset.

Hey man, I'd love to have Polanco back, dont get me wrong there. I dont see it being likely though. There are a lot of teams that would like to have him start. It all comes down to him I guess. If we dont get him, I'd like to see a utility guy like Counsell on the bench, thats all.

I wouldn't wish Counsell on even you guys.
Can you imagine having to watch that convoluted batting stance all year? I hope he goes to the AL so I don't have to see him much.

I've never liked Counsell, I couldnt' stand it if he had that batting style in a Phils uni, does he play 3rd? We need a back up for the entire infield thats how valuable Placido is....but I agree, our biggest problem is keeping him away from someone who needs him to start.

LOL....but he is a solid player. I love Polanco though. When he finally got healthy, he was so valuable to our lineup. Seriously, not many second basemen in this league could keep Chase Utley out of the starting lineup. I'm not saying Polanoc put up HOF numbers, but as a Phillie fan, you see how much he means to us.

Who cares? He can play all four infield positions from what I read. If we dont bring Tomas back, we're going to need someone. This wasnt supposed to be a big discussion ya know.

Don't get snippy with me...bringing Placido back is 100x more important then bringing Tomas back. I have no doubt we can bring Tomas back, he really just isn't that good. You can tell the guy is guessing when he comes to the plate, and at somepoint smart people figure that out.

Counsell hit .241 last year for the Brew Crew, if we can get Polanco, check that, Ed Wade, make sure we get Polanco back.

I'm not getting snippy...MR. Defensive :) Tomas really fell off this past season. He had some moments, but basically was a waste when he would get a spot start. The only reason they may bring him back is purely for his cluhouse presence. You can tell the guys love him. That being said, I want Polanco back very badly. I hope that he keeps in mind that the Phils were actually loyal to him and i hope he decides to give back.

Placido and Albert Pujols are best friends.
It wouldn't surprise me if Albert got a clause in his contract this year saying they had to sign Polanco back as soon as he became a FA.
Polanco being traded was one of the reasons Albert was so hard nosed in negotiations. He said something like They can trade me at anytime, they've done it before, why shouldn't I get the money for what I can do.

What hasn't been mentioned here is the fact that I hit lefties better then Chase Utley did last year. He was awful against them.
If PP wants to come back, we can play him against lefties at 2B and 1-2 days a week spelling Bell at 3B. That's 3 starts a week, primary guy in the infield off the bench, then nearly assured playing time when Bell's inevitable injury hits.
It's not a bad situation, but I don't blame him if he doesn't want it.

Yeah, I think we all know Placido would be a great sign for out team for next year no matter what the reason is...we are going to need him. Two things about your post though, Utley will have to learn to hit lefties or he won't be out reg. 2b, that's just all there is to it and I don't mean just for next year, I mean for years to come. Second I know why you are saying it but give Bell a little credit he played 140 games for us this year.

Yeah, I agree he needs to learn how to do it. But I don't want us losing games while he does so. This team's got 2 years or so to get it done. We don't have time for on the job training. Like I said, Bell's going to get hurt sooner rather then later. And between him, JRoll, and Utley, PT is going to open up and PP would get the first nod.

Another reason to have him back is in case Utley pulls a Marlon Byrd.

I'm in the minority on this but I'm willing to see Byrd get another shot. If it's not him then it better be someone we traded for...Baldelli, Crawford.

I'd be willing too. But I'd like to see a veteran brought in as an insurance policy. Nothing flashy, but a guy who can run and play the OF.

I am with Phila as far as not giving up on Byrd. I have voiced my opinions about what I think the team will do. If we get anyone, I would rather not see us give up a ton to get Crawford or Baldelli but rather get Joey Gathright instead. The reason I say that is cause I want Byrd and Michaels out there but I also want a young, speedy guy who maybe we can bring along slowly rather than toss him in the fire. That kid has real talent.
