techyankee got hosed on the matchup... he deserved an easier opponent, imo.

i thought the same thing. oh well. i didn't realize this was just a popularity contest. i thought we were actually going to debate some issue and have everybody vote on the winner of the debate. Me going up against board stalwart HLICU was a no-win situation.

That's not a bad idea.

i really thought that's what we would be doing, but that would take a long time and finding that many topics to debate could be difficult. i'm pretty sure I could out-debate some of the "popular" regulars on this board.

I work better in small doses myself, though I don't think I qualify as a popular member of this board, however I did end up with a first round bye.

Actually, that was an idea that I believe kwahraps had for another tourney of sorts.

Really, that would take long, and would be very hard to set up this time of the year (at least for many of us, anyways).

As far as the matchups go...I agree, I think some of you deserved slightly easier matchups...however, unfortunately there was only so much info for me to go by. I couldnt use posts on the Phils board or rep points, as neither were available to me. I'm sure that would have made a big difference.

As I stated earlier, next year I will have much more time to set this up, and the rankings will be much better/fairer.

Nah, it'd still be biased. Everyone has their buddies from other boards etc. It's all for fun anyway.

It actually would be interesting to start up a "debate" portion as a loser's bracket. It would serve to acquaint some of the more-venerable members of the board with the newer ones. I'd say give a common question, and each participant submits their opinion to the moderator (let's say <150 words). He/she then posts the opinions for each combatant at the same time. THat way, you don't end up having one participant simply getting to say, "Well, HLICU said X, and that's OK, but Y would be a better plan."

As Domino mentioned, that would take quite a bit of time and kwahraps had mentioned doing something like that.

I'll make this general statement: Over the course of being a member of this site, I am positive everyone has debated things with other posters. That, undoubtedly, will impact the voting here. At the same time, some other things will impact the voting -- tenure here, overall likeability, presenting a perspective that others have overlooked -- a.k.a. insight, as well as a huge list of other things that I'm sure people include when they vote.

Personally, I think both you and HLICU are good posters and the voting is really an indication of just how good of a poster HLICU is and has been for some time. *(Sidenote) A lot of us come from different boards (ESPN, Phillies.com board, etc.) and I think the time we spent there probably affects our voting, also.

Anyway, your posts and thoughts are definitely appreciated here so I hope you don't take it as a slight that HLICU has gotten so many votes over you.

This doesn't just go out to you but to all of the posters who got bad match-ups in the first round.
