From Dr. Jack's Chat Wrap:
Point 5 Detroit: Why is everyone STILL sleeping on the Pistons? I know what they do isn't sexy, but it has sold out the Palace for close to 4 years now and they look like the only team set up to win now, tomorrow, and the next 5 years. Where's the love?
http://espn.starwave.com/i/sn.gif Dr. Jack Ramsay: I don't know about the sleeping bit. Most experts are picking the Pistons to repeat. They played great last year...and could be even better the second time around. Let's see if Darko gets minutes and if McDyess can play well enough to help...like Hamilton a lot.
Phil, Denver: Dr. Jack you're the best! I know it's really early, but what do you think about Nuggets Pistons finals?
http://espn.starwave.com/i/sn.gif Dr. Jack Ramsay: I pick half of that matchup...Detroit...it's too big a jump for the Nuggs...altho they'll be improved with KMart.
Peter Lenaers The Netherlands: As a big time Indiana fan, I've been wonderong why they are always underestimated. Even this year most stories talk about Ron Artest and the danger if him exploding instead of talkng about the skill they have on the team. What are your thoughts on the Pacers finally winning a ring for Reggie?
http://espn.starwave.com/i/sn.gif Dr. Jack Ramsay: A back to back Pacer hit...Indy will be in the hunt with the Pistons...ultimately they'll have to beat them to win the East...same as last year. Indy is a solid team...I might want a better point guard than Tinsley, and a stronger center than Foster...but they're very good. Artest had a great year and is improving in all ways...much better self-control...
Don (Windsor): Hey Doc!! Just wondering, who do you think are the top 5 teams in the league (in order)?
http://espn.starwave.com/i/sn.gif Dr. Jack Ramsay: My top 5: Detroit, SA, Minn, Indy, Houston
From SportsIllustrated.com
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE YEAR: Ben Wallace, Detroit. With all due respect to the enigmatic Ron Artest, who also thinks he's the "best player in the league (http://www.indystar.com/articles/6/180617-4686-036.html)," Wallace was robbed last year and is going to continue to get robbed every time the NBA doesn't give proper due to the only guy in the league who has the ability to alter an opposing team's entire game plan. Wallace played out of position for the better part of last year, but once Rasheed Wallace came on board he was able to play more off the ball and wreak havoc from the weak side.
RUNNER UP: Artest.
EASTERN CONFERENCE CHAMPS: Detroit: Too much size and versatility. And Antonio McDyess replacing the defensively challenged Mehmet Okur is a major addition.
NBA CHAMPS: Detroit: Perfect matchup for the Pistons. Long-armed Rasheed Wallace will make Garnett earn every bucket while Richard Hamilton will test Latrell Sprewell's weary legs.
