Why, why, why, why???????

Haven't we been through this before. They sure paint a rosy picture though.

From the Philadelphia Inquirer 10/13/04

The ex-Phils manager is in the running again. He took the team to the World Series in 1993.

Phillies fans haven't enjoyed cool October nights since 1993, when mullets were the rage and Jim Fregosi was manager.

Those were good times.

So it's intriguing that the Phillies will interview Fregosi, a special assistant in the Atlanta Braves' front office, for their managerial vacancy later this month.

"We have a history," Fregosi, 62, said last night. "And it wasn't really a bad history. We went to the World Series. I think they know a lot about me. They know I know about the city of Philadelphia. They know that I know a lot about the club. I've seen the club play a lot. I know a lot of the individuals that are on the team. I think it's a very good team. And whoever gets the job, it's a very nice opportunity, because the club has a chance to win."

Fregosi, who managed the Phillies from 1991 to '96, is very highly regarded in the team's front office. He would bring a presence to the clubhouse and an immediate level of respect.

"If you manage on the East Coast, there's never anything like that," he said. "The fans are so into the game. Let's face it - Philadelphia is one of the great sports cities of all time. It's a beautiful ballpark. It's got every advantage you could possibly have. They draw a lot of people. They have talent.

"I know all the people there. I know the ownership group. I know [general manager] Eddie Wade. He was there when I was there. [Team president] David Montgomery. All the people in the office. I know everybody there. I have a lot of friends there."

Could he bring back some of that '93 magic?

"We certainly hope we could do that," he said.

What do you guys think about Buddy Bell? Sounds like a stretch to me.

I think Fregosi could be the right man for the job because he seems like the type of manager that could get this team to play, just look at what he did with the '93 team.

Manuel and Baylor seemed like the favorites until I heard Fregosi was in the mix. Interesting...very interesting choice. i dont think he'll get it though. Wade seems to like Manuel but we'll see if he wants him as our hitting coach instead.

I think the ideal coaching staff would be Milt at 1st, Bomby at 3rd, Varsho as bench coach, LA as pitching coach, Manuel as hitting coach, and Fregosi as manager.

I agree JRoll, but I guess I'm in the minority that thinks Baylor would be a good manager for us as well.

I personally think we will end up with Manuel as the manager and Baylor will come over as the hitting coach. I really don't know who will end up at 3rd, maybe Juan Samuel. I think it is just a formality until LA is announced as the pitching coach. I am a bit intrigued by Buddy Bell though, I know he is a great baseball man when it comes to knowledge, he hasn't ever won, but he has also never had a team capable of winning it all though.

You know, all these guys we're interviewing may come on board, Little included. I still have heard nothing of LA being our pitching coach but everyone keeps saying it, so I guess I'll go with it. Anyone have any articles?

New manager picks new pitching coach...so depending on his relationship with all the canindates I do not expect that at all...

what I meant is that if Manuel and Baylor are on the coaching staff, it wouldnt be a surprise to see Little as an assistant like he has been in the past.
