NEW YORK (CP) - Los Angeles Kings forward Craig Conroy was named the NHL's offensive player of the week Monday while Red Wings goaltender Manny Legace captured the defensive honour.

Conroy recorded two goals and five assists and posted a plus-5 rating in three games last week.

Rangers winger Jaromir Jagr, Bruins centre Joe Thornton, Canucks centre Brendan Morrison and Minnesota Wild winger Marian Gaborik were runners-up.

Conroy opened the week by scoring the winning goal and adding three assists in a 5-4 road victory over the Colorado Avalanche on Wednesday. He then added a goal and two assists in a 7-2 victory at Dallas the following night. He was pointless in a 3-2 loss to the Calgary Flames on Sunday.

Legace led the Red Wings to three victories last week, recording a 1.30 goals-against average with one shutout. He began the week with 26 saves in a 3-2 win over the San Jose Sharks on Oct. 17 before turning aside 23 shots in a 3-2 victory over the Mighty Ducks two nights later. He capped the week with 17 saves in a 6-0 win over Columbus on Sunday.
