Thrashers Reassign Defenseman Mark Popovic to Chicago Wolves (AHL)

Atlanta, GA (Oct. 21, 2005) -- The Atlanta Thrashers have reassigned defenseman Mark Popovic to the Chicago Wolves of the American Hockey League, according to Executive Vice President and General Manager Don Waddell. The team’s active roster now stands at 21, with an additional three players on Injured Reserve (see attached list). In addition, the team has assigned right wing Guillaume Desbiens to Gwinnett (ECHL) from Chicago.

Popovic, 23, was scoreless in two games with Atlanta following his Oct. 15 recall. He leads Chicago defensemen with two points (one goal, one assist) in three games.

The 6-1, 210-pound defenseman has notched 58 points (nine goals, 49 assists) and 156 penalty minutes in 224 AHL games with Cincinnati and Chicago. The native of Stoney Creek, Ontario, was acquired by Atlanta from Anaheim for Kip Brennan on Aug. 23, 2005.
