Just a quick hi, i'm new here but probably know some of you from the ESPN boards.
What do you guys think about the possiblilty of facing off against the cubs in the NLCS? .
Who would you rather face in the playoffs out of the possibles, and which teams would you like to avoid like the plague?
Personally, i'd like to face the padres and giants, the Padres look lightweight, and the giants have nothing but Bonds and Schmidt.
I kinda don't fancy facing up against the dodgers much though, maybe i'll think different when we've played them 6 times in September.
I don't know what to think about the Cubs, if they catch fire and have healthy starters, they could be phenomenal in a 7 game set, but as most of this season, they could be just average.

Personally i want to avoid the giants. The cubs don't bother me, too many weaknesses, hell the giants ahve them too but schmidt's the best pitcher in baseball. in a short series, two times facing him, it wouldnt take much.
we won't face the cubs, in a 7 game series i'll take the cards over them (NLCS)
personally i want to play atlanta, they're good but they're not THAT good.

Welcome to the board.:)
I would just as soon see the cubs lose the wildcard the final day of the season just to add to their humiliation and their fan's agony. Other than that, I don't really care who we face in the playoffs. I think we match up pretty well with any other team now.

Schmidt is the 2nd best pitcher in baseball. Johan Santana is the best.

Ooo... Good to see a Twin getting some recognition outside of Minnesota :)
I'll have to agree that Santana is doing quite well. He's been tearing teams a new one as of late.

I don't know why people still don't know this guy yet. This guy is absolutely nasty, his stuff is better than anyone in the majors. Everyone has to pay attention to him cause he's the real deal. If it wasn't for a shaky start Santana would have absolutely sick numbers(he still has them). By sick I mean like an ERA in the low 2's.

He has been a pleasant surprise for us, and will contend for a Cy Young by season's end, IMO. Now if only we had some better pitchers around him (With the exception of Radke and sometimes Silva), then we could have a deadly rotation... But Lohse has been somewhat diseased over the past month or so, and Mulholland is showing his old age out there (Though he has done respectable work in spite of it).
But enough of that. I won't hijack this thread anymore. If you want to talk Santana or Twins, I'll be more than happy to do so in General MLB Discussion.

I know you have Durbin in the minors. They could promote him to the majors and I'm sure that he could be better than most of your other starters.
And no problem, in the old board we always talked about other topics also.

I think Durbin started this weekend against the A's. I can't remember, as I was busy all weekend, but I can double check to make sure.

Last I heard was that he had something like 13 k's in his last minor league game.
