CHARLOTTESVILLE, Virginia (Ticker) - After two sub-par performances, Virginia gets another chance to get it right.
The 23rd-ranked Cavaliers host Duke on Saturday in the Atlantic Coast Conference opener for both teams.
Connor Hughes kicked a 19-yard field goal as time expired as the Cavaliers eked out a 27-24 victory over upset-minded Syracuse last Saturday.
Playing its first game since a 31-19 win over Western Michigan in its season opener on September 3, Virginia (2-0) put together a 59-yard drive over the final 6:18, which Hughes capped with his second field goal of the game.
Virginia quarterback Marques Hagans (http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/player/profile?playerId=113717) was outstanding on the ground, rushing 14 times for 110 yards, but he threw three interceptions, including one in the end zone in the second quarter.
Hagans, who has five interceptions in the first two games, completed 16-of-26 passes for 145 yards and a touchdown. Hagans had just five interceptions all last season.
Virginia rushed for 271 yards despite playing without senior tailback Wali Lundy (http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/player/profile?playerId=136342), who sat out after suffering a sprained foot in the win against Western Michigan.
Duke (1-2) overcame several mishaps to post its first win of the season last Saturday, a 40-14 victory over Division I-AA Virginia Military Institute.
Despite five turnovers, Duke was able to score the first 33 points of the contest.
Virginia leads the series, 29-27, and has won five straight meetings and 14 of the last 16. Last season, the Cavaliers posted a 37-16 victory in Durham.
