Moving Day?

It would not be surprising to see the Cardinals make a move today to reinforce their pitching. Dan Haren will start the first game today, a 12:10 p.m. start, while Chris Carpenter is scheduled for the 7:10 p.m. nightcap.

Rather than have Haren sit around spent and unavailable the rest of the weekend, the club may opt for a fresh arm from Memphis to get them through. One candidate would be Al Reyes, who is 2-2 with a 3.11 earned-run average and 22 saves. Reyes has fanned 45 in 37 2/3 innings.

Another possibility might be Chad Paronto, who is 5-3 with a 1.28 ERA.

Either of the righthanders would have to be added to the 40-man roster. The Cardinals have 38 players on the 40-man, as Ankiel and reliever Mike Lincoln don't count while on the 60-day disabled list.

Another Memphis righthander, Josh Pearce, is on the 40-man roster. Pearce has appeared in 10 games for the Cardinals over the past two seasons. He is 3-2 with a 3.28 ERA at Memphis.

that seems like a smart idea. any of those 3 being called up would be fine with me.

Not a great selection.

Pearce is on the DL.
Paronto looks like smoke-and-mirrors.
Reyes has given up 7 homers in Memphis. Still, he looks like the best option of the three.

DK has been supplying us with some great box score lines from Reyes over the last few weeks. He had 15 K's his last outing.
BTW, how is Brad Thompson doing? He had that long shutout streak and then seemed to have quieted down. Isn't he at AAA now?

I thought Thompson had a shoulder injury now...

According to this site, he has only pitched 14 innings since his June callup:

The Cardinal farmhand with 15 K's in 7 innings was Anthony Reyes, AA.

Al Reyes, AAA, is a different guy.

OOOhhhhh...Thanks for that correction. I didn't know we had two minor league pitchers with the last name of Reyes and first initial A. I just did a "quick-glance" kind of thing. lol
