DURHAM, North Carolina (Ticker) - Marcus Vick (http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/player/profile?playerId=135239) has a win under his belt. Now he needs to build on it.

Vick made plays but showed plenty of room for improvement in Virginia Tech's 20-16 victory over North Carolina State. He will lead the seventh-ranked Hokies against Duke on Saturday in an Atlantic Coast Conference matchup.

Vick sat out all of last year due to a suspension but was handed the reins to a team with high hopes. On Saturday, he completed 10-of-21 passes for 108 yards and rushed for 31 more. While not spectacular, he did not turn the ball over and made the plays when Virginia Tech needed them.

"The guy played really fantastic for an opening ballgame, very much in control. I think he had one poor check, and that was it," Virginia Tech coach Frank Beamer said. "For a game that was moving as fast as that one was, I think that was a great opening game for him. I think you'll see him get better each and every week."

Mike Imoh (http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/player/profile?playerId=135226) rushed 18 times for 56 yards and a touchdown for the Hokies, who were outgained, 434-229, but helped throughout by 12 penalties on N.C. State.

"They (Hokies) are very physical and they don't really have too many weaknesses," Duke coach Ted Rook said. "They take care of the football and they are sound in the kicking game. They are very talented and well-coached. It will be quite a challenge this week to be able to do this."

Just about every game is a challenge for the Blue Devils, who were unable to get the job done in a season-opening 24-21 loss at East Carolina. Justin Boyle (http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/player/profile?playerId=156599) rushed for two touchdowns and Ronnie Drummer (http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/player/profile?playerId=156602) scored on a 100-yard kickoff return, but it was not enough.

Junior quarterback Mike Schneider (http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/player/profile?playerId=135908) struggled in his season opener, going 15-of-28 for 139 yards and three interceptions. His job won't get any easier this week against a ball-hawking defense.

Surprisingly, Duke leads the series, 7-5. However, Virginia Tech made its ACC debut last season against Duke and won handily, 41-17.
