Can't wait for this one. This will be Santana's second playoff start at Yankee stadium so nerves shouldn't play too big of a role here. IMO, there's no reason to think that he won't contiue this run he's on, it HAS included two very good games against the Yanks.
All in all, I can't see any reason that the Twins won't win this game.
I also can't see any way we could win the series if we lost tonight.
Let's get some runs up there early boys...how does 3-0 after the first sound?

Santana's not getting the same strike zone Mussina had. Moose's second pitch to Morneau was further outside then 3 of those pitches to Sheffield.

Guess we can't really be surprised by that *Shrug*

YES! What a great throw by Torii....two threats for the Yanks...NO RUNS!!!
Time to put some up for Johan now boys.
Hunter is a STUD...Great play...

Jones looks distracted up there. Not sure how he can even focus to play with everyone else going on.

Santana has looked a little shaky/rusty/whatever be it to start off, but despite that, we are still in the lead.
I'll try to post when I can, as I'm watching the game and studying at the same time.

Yeah, Johan looks nervous out there.
Thing is though, this may just be Johan at his worst and the Yankees still haven't scored.
Purple Gorilla
10-05-2004, 08:19 PM
It hasn't been pretty so far, but it's been 3 shutout innings...
Let's go Twins...score a couple more here, let's make this easy for Johan.

Hopefully Johan can gather himself up and pitch like he did in the regular season. If he can do that, then this game's pretty much over. That said, we need to get a couple more runs, I don't feel safe with a 1 run lead (or 2 or 3 or 9) with the Yankees.

Another ugly inning...but...another scoreless inning.

Twins DP's are simply beautiful to watch.

Yeah, even with Cuddyer in there at 2nd, and he's worse defensively then Rivas.

Moose looks to be getting better, Santana better wake up before one of those Yankee HRs shows up.

ANOTHER double play...
That inning was a good example of what the Yankees CAN'T do...they CAN'T play small ball...fortunately for them, they hardly ever have to.
Come on now...we really need a few more runs....
BTW: This is post #700...I get closer and closer to 1000 each day....I'm not sure if that makes me cool or not.

Moose has always been a Twin's killer...well over 20 wins in his career against us, I'm surprised we have 1 run.

Didn't we beat Mussina last year in game 1?
Moose has been looking good, but he can only do so much. The Yanks have hit into 4 DPs over 5 innings.

Hr Jacque Jones!!!!

Another one of those great jump SB's from Hunter....this guy has been able to walk into 2nd standing up more this season then I've ever seen anyone be able to do.
Purple Gorilla

You know..it's a good thing A-Rod can hit...because he sure plays some piss poor defense. Olerud has saved the Yankees tonight, no doubt about that.

It's so funny to see power hitters swing at Johan's changeup...he makes them look foolish.
Purple Gorilla
10-05-2004, 09:09 PM
Wow.....Sheff went around...and it was a strike anyway.....
Purple Gorilla
10-05-2004, 09:11 PM
Got him anyway....almost another double play...since when did Johan become a ground ball pitcher? LOL

Another scoreless inning....I'm not sure how Johan is doing it, because he's definately off tonight...but let's hope he can keep it going. Another run or two would probably lower my blood pressure a bit.

Sweet..in somewhat related news...because he's a former Twin..I just won an Ebay auction for a 2004 Leaf Bert Blyleven game used jersey card...

Oooohhh...close call...glad Mussina got out of the way.
Also glad to see the Yanks have the bullpen up...other then Mariano I'd rather see anyone out there then Mussina.

A hit and run with a .206 hitter at the plate?
That's a questionable call for sure.

Johan struck him out...nice to see the umps make the right call there.

Reminds me of the Furcal HR in Philly this year, except it was a lot closer call and the Umps actually got it correct.

They reviewed and got this one right. It went in front of the foul pole, so no home run.

I mean, they got this one correct, Furcal still has one too many HRs and three too many RBIs for the year, but we still won the game.

No clue at this point. The only other possibility I can think of is the dealio with the cookies I mentioned earlier (www.sports-boards.net (http://www.sports-boards.net) vs. sports-boards.net)

Great catch by Sheff on that line drive by Hunter.
Thought Jones got another one there...
Let's go Rincon!

TORRRRIIIIIII!!!!!!!!!
Takes one away from A-Rod!!!!
I wouldn't trade him for any other CF'er in baseball.

That was one sweet catch by Torii. He's had one hell of a game defensively tonight.
Speaking of defensively, another double play!
Purple Gorilla
10-05-2004, 09:58 PM
Twin's just set a record...
5 double-plays...most in divisional series history....
It's Joe Nathan time....and I've said it a few times tonight..but an insurance run would be nice here.
Purple Gorilla
10-05-2004, 10:07 PM
Ok...no insurance runs..but we're still up by 2...Nathan should be able to lock this down.
