Chris pronger was traded to the Edmonton Oilers for Eric Brewer and two top prospects.

I post it here since I'm sure not many people check the NHL boards and there is not a Blues forum. I know there are a few Blues fans in here.

wow, considering they didn't trade him at the draft I figured there was a good chance that we would keep him.

are there going to be any Blues that I will recognize when the season starts?

Its better to get two good prospects that are very close to being NHL ready than two draft picks that would still be about four years away(We got a former first round draft pick who people project to be a future top 4 d-man and a pretty good former 2nd round draft pick). Also, I've heard that with the money the blues have now theyre going to be able to sign one or two more scoring wingers like Satan or Palffy. Right now, the Blues have a bright future at D an Goalie and a pretty decent present in those two positions. The problem is the offense which hopefully they will address with the money we have left after this deal.

Eric Brewer was an all star last season BTW. He's pretty good. Blues did good in this deal. Even Oilers fans are saying they may have given too much.

Yeah, Pronger is still an elite defenseman but he was set to make somewhere around $7.25 mil this season. They already have Weight and Tkachuck making almost $13 mil.

It hurts to los Prongs. He's the best defenseman out there. But I really like this deal, we got good talent back. I hope we're able to sign Satan or Palffy(Cause the other available forwards like Naslund and Forsberg are a little too expensive)

The only NHL ready guy we got according to Buccigross:

4. Eric Brewer (http://sports.espn.go.com/nhl/players/profile?statsId=1792), D, Edmonton Oilers (http://sports.espn.go.com/nhl/clubhouse?team=edm): He is so going to win more than one Norris Trophy during his career. He'll be more appreciated on HDTV, where you can see the little things a good defenseman does. He makes the crisp pass, takes the body when necessary, plays a lot, plays under control, has good size and has that Nicklas Lidstrom (http://sports.espn.go.com/nhl/players/profile?statsId=78) aura about him. Quiet, cool, and smart.

That is a weird trade by Edmonton then. I wonder why they traded hiim for Pronger. I mean, I like Pronger and all, but this guy is almost 5 years younger.

BTW, when the Sabres released Miroslav Satan the headline read, "Sabres renounce Satan." That's just about the best headline ever. :)

Well everytime you can get the best defenseman in the league, you obviously have to pay a steep price.

Here is info about Jeff Woywitka (John Kelly had better start practicing that name now!). He's a pretty big prospect and Oilers fans were pissed to lose him more than Brewer (who is a good, young defenseman).

PS - We need a Blues board!

I'd have rather had Kariya but he signed with Nashville. Plus, the Hawks got Khabibulin (sp?). Yikes!

Selanne is an awesome signing. I like Kariya better obviously, but considering the options I think its the best we can do. Selanne-Tkachuck-Weight is some pretty good offense to go along with Drake and Boguniecki.
