On StlCardinals.com this poll was posted and most (41%) people are voting for him batting sixth. Second most is having him batting in the number 2 hole, which is where I think he should be and thus moving Renteria down to 6th or possibly even 7th behind Sanders. Edgar seems to thrive in that role of 6 or 7 without looking up any stats or anything.

So I guess I'm just searching what you all think about the subject.

Edgar had 100 RBI mainly because he was batting in the 6th hole last year. I really think that this is the reason why its a good idea to bat Walker 2nd. It's also nice because of Walker's abilities to get on base so that the other big guys can drive him in.

Its always very nice to have this kind of problem huh?

Very nice problem. If one could even call it a problem. It's nice to have this line up where you can bat anybody anywhere and the out come would generally be the same. TLR must be having wet dreams at night putting together this line up. Especially if he wants to ever utilize the lefty/righty line ups that he's put together in the past.

How about batting Edgar leadoff, Walker second, Mabry or Cedeno 6th, dropping Womack down to 8th, making Molina the primary catcher batting 7th and using Sanders as a righty off the bench?

Batting Edgar leadoff has always beena good idea but right now that Womack is having a fine season I dont think we should do it. I know Tony is struggling and everything but he has had stretches like this the whole season, stretches that he has been able to overcome very nicely with constant 3-4 hit games. I wanna wait on Womack, obviously, if we see that he's not going to overvome his struggles then something has to be done.

i think we should go with walker 2nd and drop edgar to 6th so he can get some move rbi's and he did very good last year hitting 6th. i would leave womack at leadoff until he struggles even more all the way until october.

without doubt, i think the 2 hole.
High OBP, great baserunner, knows how to work the count to give Womack the chance to take an extra base.
edgar would then be in the 6 hole, where he could look for an early fastball as he likes to.
edgar is a good baserunner, is fast, and has a decent OBP, but he doesn't like to work the count and that can hurt us sometimes in the #2 slot. He has an RBI mentality, and the 6 hole is where he wants to hit.
