Who is Your MVP of this years dissapointing squad?

Purple Gorilla
10-03-2004, 11:57 AM
It's gotta be Abreau...

Granted, I didn't watch many Phillies games except when they played the Braves or Cubs (only time they seem to be on tv) so I'm going mainly on stats...but this guy put up some great ones.

Could you imagine the versatilety of a lineup that would include Abreau, Beltran, and Soriano...3 5 tool players with Thome in the middle of them...now THAT would be a fearsome lineup.

I had to go with Abreu. The guy has been a rock and it's good to see him get his due. I know JRoll was fantastic for us but he looked better cause he played so much better than he had been doing. Abreu just went out, did his thing, and put up the big numbers again. I dont think he should lose points cause he did what we expected from him. But I still love JRoll!

Yeah, Abreu is my favorite player, I love to watch him play, but we expect this from Bobby, he was an All-Star for the first time but we all knew he should have been before this year, I just think JRoll took a major step towards being a great player this year, I think we are all finally happy to see JRoll stop wasting his talent. So that's why I voted for him.

I tried to cut my vote in half cause I would give it to both of them. This last half of the season, when I was watching the games, there was no guy on the team that I had more confidence in than those two. Once JRoll got his confidence up, he got on a tear. Let's PRAY he can keep it up cause he is the key to this lineup.

Sorry my friend, that is what Polls are all about, you either pick one or the other, I agree it is a tough choice between Jimmy and Bobby, I'm just glad that we have both of them on this team. We need to resign JRoll, I think that's something everyone can agree with...

I actually think that's a good thing for the Phils next year, that team seemed to quit on him half way through the year, hopefully that will happen again next year.

I'm going to say it'll be his last year in Miami, if he makes it through the whole year.

I am kind of new over here, but I would have to say Rollins was this teams MVP. Even though Abreu had better numbers there is more to a player than numbers in my eyes. Rollins is so good in the field and on the bases, and he never seems to stroll around catching flies or running out an infield hit. I think Rollins was there for the team when they needed him to be, not just when they were involved in a blow out. And on the really big up side he seems like he is learning still and improving as a player, he didn't strike out nearly as much as last season and he is learning to draw walks, exactly what a leadoff hitter needs to do.

Unfortunately I just don't know how much of an interest I will have in this team in the near future if this ownership stays with this team.

The next question is, "Does anyone really want to be known as the MVP of this team"? Kind of like being voted employee of the year at Enron.

I didn't watch the game, but my vote goes to whoever recorded the last out today, ending this miserable season.

Ok, think of it this way, who had the best season, we're all dissapointed but I think when we all look at JRoll and Abreu we at least feel good about something. Niether of them gave us any chance to complain about them.

I had to give the nod to Abreu because for all the flack he would get about his defensive skills and pulling up on balls, yes he did make a few miscues, but I think he showed a lot of hustle out there for the most part.

It was also nice to see JRoll get back on track.

I picked Abreu. The guy had a great season and went to his first All-Star game this year (although many could argue he deserved an All-Star appearance WAY before this year.

In addition, it was great to see Rollins play very well this year. We all know this team has a lot of potential, which is one of the reasons it's so tough for us to watch them lose and play so poorly. It'll be interesting to see who the Phillies hire for Manager and the other coaching positions. Don Baylor said he's interested in the job.

Grady Little: should need no explanation.
Art Howe: anyone dumb enough to leave the A's for the Mets I don't want to see in the Phils dug out
Don Baylor: what the hell has he ever won?
Bobby Valentine: they just fired Bowa, why hire someone with a similar style?
Varsho: would rather see some one with experience

Baylor was added b/c he was mentioned on Phillies.com as being interested, but I agree with you statement. Valentine was also mentioned by someone, but I also agree with your statement.

That is the reason I added them both to the list but I think i would be a major mistake to add either one of the two. The other three would be good choices to me, Little gets to much heat, I think I'd place him third behind Howe and Varsho.

More then likely the next manager will be someone not on this list, we all know that.

I read somewhere that Jim Leyland may consider coming out of retirement to coach this team. I don't know what anyone else thinks, but if I remeber correctly his reputation is that he actually micromanaged more than Kerrigan. Just curious to see if anyone else heard anything about that.

Some names i have heard mentioned

Darren Daulton, he was interviewed when Bowa was hired, he's more of a players manager...kinda like Fregosi. I dunno if he would work well

Willie Randolph, Alot of people are talking about him for various managerial positions he's got alot of Brains to pick as Yankees Bench Coach. He would be my choice but i think the phillies want to go with someone with experience

Bob Boone, He managed two no chance teams (KC and Cincy) both situations were hopeless when he was hired. Dunno if he would work he's kinda similar to bowa

Vuke - I'll just say no right now. I don't like him at all.

Chris Chambliss - Another Guy like Randolph who has had his name mentioned every time a managerial spot comes up. He has yet to get a chance, but these are generally the types of guys who make great managers.

Lenny Dykstra - Believe he's managing in the reds minor leagues or was a year or two ago. I always thought the Dude would make a good manager, dunno if he would even be on the phils list though

I'd like to see Chambliss or Randolph personally unless we can get someone like Leyland to come out of retirement, though i think we're going to end up with someone we aren't going to like

LOL.....there's nowhere safe right now, not even up in New England. You still have the Sox curse to deal with.

I don't know, I think its pretty safe in Bay Area, I mean other than this years niners, their teams seem to compete year in and year out. Although there is the massive gay and democrat population to deal with... I mean.... not democrat... communist... I mean... just the gays.

(And just to note this, I'm a democrat, so this is all in good fun... hopefully I don't get a lifetime ban.)

:) :) :)

Please man....for my sake...dont bring up the Bay Area sports. It's still preseason as far as I'm concerned....well, as far as the Niners are concerned too, as crappy as they are playing.
