Santana and Mark Mulder have been mentioned as the favorites to win the AL Cy Young award this year. Looking at the statistics, Santana leads Mulder in every major category except wins. You can't fault Santana for that; he has lost many games while giving up three or fewer runs, and has had some of the worst run support in the American League.
You can view the stats here:

Some other stats would help Santana out would be his WHIP and the Opp. BA. which in both he fairs a whole lot better than Mulder in too.

I agree completely. Does anyone know who votes for the award? If it's voted on by the media, there might be a coastal bias.

The one thing that MIGHT keep Johan from winning the Cy Young....
Joe Nathan...
If he keeps this streak up and continues to lower his ERA and WHIP, continues to strike guys out the way he has, and finishes with 45+ saves....he's going to win the Cy Young award...
Another great year to be a Twins fan.

Santana as of now should be the front-runner. He looked sharp yesterday versus NY.

I just had another thought...
Maybe they'll realize just how dominate both guys are and do it this way...
Johan Santana - AL MVP
Joe Nathan - AL Cy Young
A guy can dream right...

Nathan has pitched lights-out as well. I think they both should be finalists, but Santana is the starting pitcher, and with the exception of Eric Gagne, starting pitchers usually win these awards.

Well, Joe Nathan is a poor man's Eric Gagne...

Well Gagne has now blown a couple saves, and has blown twice as many this year as Joe Nathan if I'm not mistaken.

I agree completely with you guys. I'm a Cards fan and I've been watching Santana very closely for about 3 years now since I saw 2 straight absolutely sick pitched games by him. The guys is amazing, hes nasty and is the most dominant pitcher in the game right now(Even over RJ or Schmidt). I have had him in my fantasy teams also since then.

Good call putting him on your fantasy teams, I have done the same. ;)
