Paul Byrd, RHP (7-5, 3.87) (http://pittsburgh.pirates.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/mlb/stats/mlb_individual_player_gamebygamelog.jsp?playerID=111838&statType=2) Angels (http://anaheim.angels.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/index.jsp?c_id=ana) (47-31) @<hidden> Runelvys Hernandez, RHP (5-8, 4.64) (http://pittsburgh.pirates.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/mlb/stats/mlb_individual_player_gamebygamelog.jsp?playerID=424465&statType=2) Royals (http://kansascity.royals.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/index.jsp?c_id=kc) (26-51) http://pittsburgh.pirates.mlb.com/mlb/images/news/probables/probables_divider.gif

Scouting Report:
Byrd has faced his former team twice in his career, with both starts coming this season. In his first start this year, Byrd allowed four earned runs on nine hits over seven innings to take the loss against the Royals. Byrd is 3-1 with a 3.34 ERA in five starts in June including a complete game.

After four superb starts, Hernandez had a control lapse on Saturday against the Rockies. He walked seven, including two with the bases loaded -- and one of those was the opposing pitcher. Hernandez threw 103 pitches in just 5 1/3 innings but gave up just three runs. In his last five starts (3-1, one no-decision), his ERA went from 5.67 to 4.64.

Bartolo Colon, RHP (10-4, 3.02) (http://pittsburgh.pirates.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/mlb/stats/mlb_individual_player_gamebygamelog.jsp?playerID=112526&statType=2) Angels (http://anaheim.angels.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/index.jsp?c_id=ana) (47-31) @<hidden> Jose Lima, RHP (1-6, 7.81) (http://pittsburgh.pirates.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/mlb/stats/mlb_individual_player_gamebygamelog.jsp?playerID=117769&statType=2) Royals (http://kansascity.royals.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/index.jsp?c_id=kc) (26-51) http://pittsburgh.pirates.mlb.com/mlb/images/news/probables/probables_divider.gif

Scouting Report:
Colon has gone 1-1 in two starts against the Royals this season, allowing six runs on 11 hits in a loss to Kansas City in his second start of the season. In his last start, Colon allowed three runs on eight hits over eight innings. Colon went 4-1 with a 3.60 in five starts in June and is 4-3 career at Kauffman Stadium.

Lima's command was off against the Rockies and, over 4 2/3 innings in the mountain air, he used up 94 pitches. He was finally pulled after two straight walks in the fifth. He gave up four runs, and two of six hits were shots off Lima's glove. He hasn't lasted more than five innings in seven of his last eight starts -- not the kind of staying power the Royals envisioned when they signed him.

Sunday, July 3 Kauffman Stadium | 6:10 PM CT http://pittsburgh.pirates.mlb.com/mlb/images/news/probables/probables_divider.gif
To be announced Angels (http://anaheim.angels.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/index.jsp?c_id=ana) (47-31) @<hidden> Zack Greinke, RHP (1-9, 5.92) (http://pittsburgh.pirates.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/mlb/stats/mlb_individual_player_gamebygamelog.jsp?playerID=425844&statType=2) Royals (http://kansascity.royals.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/index.jsp?c_id=kc) (26-51)

Scouting Report:
Greinke, after being punished by the Diamondbacks, has rebounded nicely in his last three starts. He was impressive in Monday night's outing at Minnesota, holding the Twins to two runs in six innings. Greinke took the loss, but using his fastball more and mixing in an occasional changeup, seemed to work. It looks as if he's emerging from a sophomore slump that often strikes young pitchers.
