Usually in July, teams that are still in the race look to get better. They are working under a pretty tight number and without special consideration the Nats cant go after anyone.

So my question is, if they could, who should the Nats try and get?

Apparently, Bowden told Kearns and Dunn that he's been trying to put together deals for them.

Kearns, knowing this, asked Reds GM O'Brien for a trade when they sent him down to AAA. O'Brien then said that noone had shown any interest in trading for him.

I'm thinking they need a lefty in the pen, since they dont have 1. And a better option for a backup 1stbaseman. Nick J has a bruised heel and the only option is Will Cordero and his .031 avg and 0.31 obp.

Will has been pretty much been told he's gone once Virdo comes back. And I agree with getting a lefty, even if hes just a specialist. They have a young lefty who's suppose to be a prospect, but they don't want to bring him up. I think another strong SP who is a work horse would be nice. They don't have a lot to deal with though for big names, so just some one who is good and realible would be good.

Just wondering, but whats the consensus here for the possible Wilson trade that all the "insiders" think will happen? Personally, I don't think it's that great of an upgrade, at least when they aren't going to trade Church too. The OF is going to be crowded if they have Church, Gullien, I'd imagine Wilkerson (he has been dubbed the franchise guy) and Wilson, with possibly Byrd. If they get a new CF, I'd rather see Vernon Wells, or someone like that who is younger. Shortstop is possibly a big question mark though if Guzman keeps his low BA, and the 2nd base situation will be interesting.

It will certainly be crowded. And lets not forget that Tremel Sledge was deemed to be the answer in LF but was lost for the season with a leg injury. A move for another outfielder seems a little silly.

Once Vidro comes back its going to be interesting. Although i believe they'll stick with the formula of Castilla, Guaman, and Vidro, we'll see Caroll bouncing around to give them random days off. Maybe Spivey gets delt? I still say a better option is needed to backup 1st.

There was a small little statement on the Nat's site that said that the Nat's inquired about Roger Clemens. Personally, I don't think that this trade would happen either because of what the Nat's would have to offer. I think that they could fill the positions that the Astros would want, but that they would either not be young enough or not be talented enough for the asking price Clemens is sure to have.

Nats are supposedly interested in Burnett from Florida. But one do they have a lot of talent to give to Florida for him. Also Burnett will want a 10 million a year contract after this year. I do not know if Wasington will being will to trade for that unless they find an owner soon. If they do I think he could be a major contributor into spacing them from the rest of the NL East.

I believe that MLB plans to finish up interviews and announce the new owners soon (within a couple of weeks). They were suppose to be further along then they are now, but more people applied to become owners than originally thought.

They are doing a lot better than most people thought they could. I would not mind them seeing them in the playoffs this year. I like their attitude towards baseball. I also appreciate that Frank Robinson is managing them and hope he will continue so once they get a new owner.

I hope Frank stays too, I really enjoy this team attitude baseball that they play, although it would be nice to see one highly talented super star that just makes your mouth drop, but thats for the kid in me.

D.C. is great city and a player will come there because of that. I just wish the Expos (when they were in Canada) tried harder to keep Vlad. Imagine how good they would have been,

Yeah, I know, because he really hasm't changed as far as doing great with change of town. he was doing great as an Expo. And I know about getting that star until an owner is announced, it's just I hope that when that happens that they can grab someone. It appears too with "Chief" closing so well, Billy Wagner won't end up in DC unless he's a set up guy.
