Update: Hoiberg will have heart surgery to correct an aortic root aneurysm. "I'm determined to play again," he told the Minneapolis Star Tribune. "I know I'm not supposed to set a date, but maybe I could look at trying to do some things around the All-Star break [in February]."
Recommendation: Hoiberg had been playing with a bulge or weakness in his aorta. At this point his career is in doubt and Hoiberg said after he'll retire after the surgery if doctors feel he'll put himself at any risk by playing. Even in the best-case scenario, he'll miss most of next season.
