Wow, there really are a lot of features here. I'm playing around with all the menus and sub menus and settings and I'm impressed.
My only concern is whether this type of service can continue to support us when it clearly is not making any money.
I mean, this all costs money to maintain and I don't see any revenue here. I don't want us to all get settled in here and then see the business go belly-up.
Sully, you seem to be the super-moderator, can you give us some reassurance that this won't happen?

We've only been around for two months, and this board has surpassed our wildest expectations. Only within the past couple of weeks did we venture into getting people to buy ad space.
We have received donations to help us out early on. We've paid through August of 2005, and with donations, we're on our way to being able to fund through 2006 as well. As far as advertising, if you know somebody that would like to advertise on a site that averages several hundred thousand hits a day, send them over.

I'm not, but I can handle the yearly payments along with you no problem.

Sully, can you send me a link-- just out of curiosity-- to what a page looks like with an add in it?

I take it back, I'm not really wealthy.

Sully, you might want to get a feel for how many people would be willing to donate money to the boards before you go renting out ad space. I'm not sure what it would cost per year per person, but I'm sure people would be willing to donate some money to be free of ads and trolls.

Not yet. To start off with, I plan to have three advertisements on the homepage. They will look much like the already existing modules with a banner ad attached. I will also place advertisements at the bottom of each article submitted in our articles section.
The only other thing I can do (Although I need to change that article image) is link you to our Advertising info page (http://sports-boards.net/forums/advertising.php).

I was looking at your "advertise with us" section and thought the prices looked reasonable.
I was thinking that a bunch of us Bears fans might pitch in a buy an add on the Packers site:
Green Bay Sucks!
Just kidding.
Good luck with this Sully. I look forward to watching it become a success and if I can think of anyone who might want to advertise here, I'll let them know.

Sully,
I was reading this thread last night, and it kind of got the wheels turning a bit. Have you ever thought about having some kind of a 50/50 raffle type thing? with the proceeds going towards the operation of the SB forum?
In fact, instead of a 50/50 raffle, maybe you could do something like a 50/50 game, that uses our weekly pick'em game as a way to determine the winner of the money....
Just a thought.
