This is the most fun I've had following the Cardinals since the 1980's. I enjoyed the playoff teams in the 1990's and early 2000's, but none of them ever really gave me the feeling that they really, really could win it all without going on a hot streak.

I also enjoyed the home run chase in 1998, but that fun has lost some of it's luster between Bonds breaking the record, and the whole steroids controversy.

My real question, though (and I'm not trying to stir up trouble) is - How are Bird Turd and his Whacktion retard buddies handling this season? Wouldn't it suck to place all of your hatred into putting down guys like Walt Jocketty and Tony LaRussa, only to see a team come together with a shot at breaking the all time Cardinal record for regular season wins? (106 is the most by a Cardinal team.)

Honestly - that makes this season all the more fun. Being able to enjoy the season, knowing there are "Cardinal fans" that can't have the same amount of enjoyment, since they'd rather be bitching about how dumb Walt's moves are, or how Tony still hasn't won a pennant, etc. etc.

They have been extremely quiet. I wonder why.

Recent discussions on "that other board" that I was posting on for a while...

*Why is Walker batting 2nd, and Renteria 6th.... TLR is an idiot!

*Woody Williams needs to be released (from early in the year).

*Walker will "clog up the bases" batting 2nd.

*Has the long-feared slump arrived (posted after the Cards took 2 of 3 from Florida, but only scored 5 runs doing so.)

*Jim Edmonds is a prima donna, and will win an Oscar one year (after Edmonds got his hand spiked while getting tagged out diving back to second base.)

*La-Genious and the Integrity of the game. - saying that TLR was wrong, and giving baseball a bad name when he rested many regulars on a get-away game vs the Mets.

If the Cards win the World Series - and yes, I realize that they still have a lot of work to do before that happens - I am going to celebrate for a few days. After that, I'm going to troll like a mad-man on a certain message board and enjoy every minute of it.

I still have all of Whiney's old post's, too, including how stupid Walt Jocketty was to trade for Scott Rolen. Good call!

I had WS tickets for the first home game at Busch 2 years ago.
I hope that I get the same chance again this year.

Yeah, that Larry Walker batting 2nd thing has really blown up in Tony's face, hasn't it?

I love Walker hitting 2nd - it's exactly where I would have put the guy. The only difference is, I think I'd hit Renteria leadoff and drop Womack down to the ever so popular 9th spot. I'd also hit Edmonds 4th, Rolen 5th.

Of course - as I mentioned on another board, the Cards could start Jeff Suppan at 2nd base and hit him leadoff and they'd still have a fearsome offense.

I can't remember which World Series game I had tickets to in 2000, but I did have seats. I also had tickets to game 5 in 2002.

This year, I work for a company that not only has season tickets they raffle off, but apparently they buy extra playoff tickets as well, so....

And wouldn't drop much in offensive production right now either (even with Suppan's .000 average for the year).

That crow that I was eating earlier in the year about Womack, is starting to "come back up"...

What's the cost on a pair of those tickets anyway?

I would have to go back and look to see what the price was. I got my tickets both times by actually calling the Cardinal ticket office, rather than going through a broker. So - I got face value, but I don't recall what face value was. (I can tell you I was in the upper, upper deck.)

I believe that they were around $65 or so.
I got mine by calling (and on-line), and got them at face value also.
I never actually got the tickets however... I just had confirmation.
(I was in the LF bleachers - SIX tickets!!).

That's not too bad. I was actually thinking of a higher price per ticket.

I'd have to spring for a Hotel room also, which will probably be a nightmare to get considering.

It just seems like every game the team is going to have that one inning where they just erupt for several runs just like they did last night.

And you can never tell who is going to be the hero on any given night. Last night Womack took the walk to give us the lead, then Larry came up and ended really any chance the Reds would have to make to get back into the game for the rest of the night.

Pux, I'd be willing to let you alter our Patterson bet a little bit. Since a soda pop would cost you 50 cents, and you have access to free? playoff tickets, I'm sure you'd rather go THAT route. I wouldn't want to take your hard-earned money. :) (By the way..... Patterson was at .794 when I checked yesterday...... so it's going down to the wire. Unfortunately, I think he'll see alot of weak pitching down the stretch).

Unbelievable season, guys. It's not just that the team is winning. The WAY they're winning, the fact that they weren't supposed to win, the fact that the hated Cubs were supposed to dominate......... alot of factors play into the enjoyment. Add in the fact that the farm teams are showing us more REAL prospects to look forward to than they have in years. The 80's was a long time ago. I can't remember enjoying it this much, but I suppose I probably did.

Anyway, I hope nobody's taking it for granted. It's truly a season for the ages, especially if it ends in a world championship.

Patterson has an OPS over 1.000 in August, so he's making a run for it!

If I do manage to get playoff tickets this year, I suspect I'll have a lot of friends that I forgot I even knew!

This is a season to enjoy, that's for sure. We should all remember that, because things don't align like this very often (as evidenced by the fact that the Cards haven't won 100 games in a season in 19 years, have only won 100 games twice over the last 60 years, and 6 times in team history.) Even if they fail in the playoffs, this has been a great season to enjoy!

I'm sure there are other perks from your new company. ;)

There are a few perks that I am not used to, having worked previously for the government, then for a company that was (basically) cheap.

Baseball tickets are nice. (I'm going to my 6th game of the year on the company tonight.) I went to 2 hockey games, including a playoff game. It goes on and on.

If only you're new company needed someone to test/verify software. :D

I'm stuck with minor league (Midwest League) tickets as a perk from my company.

I can get 45-yard line, 10th row seats to virtually any Iowa Hawkeye game, every year, which is kinda nice. Wasn't worth much a few years ago, but now it's a pretty hot commodity, especially since it's free :)

I also have access to Blues tickets, but I'm not a big hockey fan.

Cardinal tickets would be awesome, but it's a pretty good drive for me, anyway. I'd still do it a few times a year, if I could.

I'm out here in the Bay Area...I'll have to start sucking up to various friends to try to get tix to a STL-SF series...or maybe go camp-out in line for tix.

Best case scenario: The Padres win the wild card, and I get to see them play the Cards in the NLDS. The Dodgers beat the Braves, and I get to see the Cards play them in in the NLCS. And then I get to see the Cards beat the Angels in the WS.

Man: 1.12, you living in the Bay Area and using the term (sucking up) from various friends? :)

Brave person with that use of words, with the people we have on the board.:D

But all of you are right about this being a vary good year for the Cards and us Fans.
I was thinking about the 60's, 70's up to now and the 60's team was good (except for that one year in the late 60's)

there is a difference between 'suck' and 'sucking up' / 'suck up'... ;-)

I can't remember that easy feeling of the Cards kicking butt since about '85 or so where you know that Cards will that game...game after game.

Way to early to gloat. I wouldn't shock me at all if the Cards get knocked out of the 1st round.

I might be gloating about the season so far, but the World Series win thing - well, as I said, there is a lot of work to be done. The Cards probably have, at best, at 20% chance of winning it all as of right now. With that being said, that's the best chance they've had in years.

It wouldn't shock me, either, if the Cards go knocked out in the first round. For that matter, it shouldn't shock any true baseball fan. The best team doesn't always win a short series. Even the Pirates swept the Cardinals within the last 6 weeks.
