Last night was frickin sweet. You gotta feel bad for the catcher (estrada?), but it was a sweet slide/dive/tackle. That arguably won the game for us last night, plus it was frickin sweet.

Erstad might have been able to slide outside the plate, but it wasn't a sure thing. But it's interesting to notice the similarity in their names:

Erstad
Estrada

Common lineage?

I think secretly that they are the same person.

Well, I might agree except that we have definitely seen both of them in the same room at the same time, and in fact at home plate at the same time. But they could still be long lost brothers separated at birth, and rejoined at home plate.

Are you peeps making light of the fact that J Estrada spent over three days in the hospital over this? That's some real class......

In fact I think it is truly lamentable that Estrada had to go to the hospital at all, but that isn't reflected in our little tongue in cheek conversation, which was, as should be obvious, facetious. Neither does that negate the fact that it was an accident that occurred on a clean play at the plate. Estrada was making a sweeping motion directly into the basepath which includes home plate. Under those circumstances, the collision was inevitable, with neither party at fault. It was, as I said , and accident.

I never doubted YOU, LALfan. The thread is suspect, however.

Q, I'll grant you this: unlike my associate who started this thread, I did not think the collision was "sweet." I couldn't use that adjective for any play that puts a player out of the game, in any sport.

Although I can certinanly understand people not enjoying the slide, and I can also understand people thinking my description of the slide was inappropriate, but Erstad went all out on that, and it won us the game. Although it's bad that the catcher was injured, he's a professional athlete. Your bound to get hurt when you play a sport for a living.
