The Cards are still looking for a RH reliever and that with Calero going down the search has intensified. I guess Urbina would be the first choice but I dont think we need him. Eldred has been awesome lately so when Kiko comes bacl who is the odd man out?

I thought they were looking for a RH reliever even before Kiko went down. I just don't think Haren is ready to pitch in pressure situations yet, so we might need more than just one more righty in the pen. Simo got rocked in his last appearance at Memphis and I really don't want to see him back either.

Yea they were looking for a reliever before Kiko went down, they have been looking for one to replace Eldred for a long time now; but now that Eldred is pitching well I dont see the same need as before. Although I agree that Haren is still not that trustable. I won't complain if we get Urbina.

Lincoln was the man, I guess that's the only injury that's really hurt us so far this year. The way the bullpen has performed it didn't really hurt us after all.

as usual, it all depends on who we give up

Exactly. And I'm afraid the Tigers(or whoever is going to give up the reliever) is going to want some good prospects. I think our team is ok and we dont need to give up any more players that could help us in the future.

i think getting urbina would help our bullpen out some more and i would feel very good going into playoffs with him in our pen.

If we wanted to add a reliever, wouldn't it be better not to get an overrated, mediocre one like Urbina? I mean, there has to be somebody out there who is actually a good pitcher and is attainable.

true but i know urbina would clear waivers for the trade to work though. anyone know any other relievers that are having a good season and are availible.
I predict (foolish as it may seem) that the bullpen will get a real boost when (that seems foolish too, I guess) Ankiel gets called up on what, Sept.1.

It wouldn't shock me if they just didn't activate Kiko until rosters expand so they wouldn't have to worry about who's the odd man out. I don't think anybody all that good will clear waivers, you may see guys like Steve Reed make it through but nobody that's gonna make a huge impact. I say wait till the roster expands, call up Ankiel and Rust and let that be our pen help(I'd love to see Stemle get called up but that'll never happen). Lincoln should be back sometime as well.

I'm ok with calling up Ankiel, obviously. But Rust doesn't deserve a promotion, he has been struggling down in AAA. He's walking WAY too many batter and his ERA is 4.43

Lincoln is done for the year

I think the pen is ok as long as Haren gets nothing more than long relief/ mop up duty. If ankiel can Contribute the odd inning of relief, that would be huge.
As far as Calero is concerned, i don't think there's much wrong with him at all, it was just to make room for Walker more than anything i think.I'm sure something is probably just niggling him, and this is the chance for him to rest it before he is really needed, he could be our post season RH setup man.
Eldred has stepped up a lot in the last 2 months also, he will see some serious work too i think.
