Schilling now the ace
Although Pedro Martinez is pictured on the front of a Wheaties box, there is no question that Curt Schilling is now the ace of the Boston pitching staff.
Schilling, who faces the New York Yankees today at Fenway Park, leads the majors with 20 victories and would have three more except for blow saves by Red Sox closer Keith Foulke. But he denies there is friction between himself and Martinez, and even called a Boston talk show to complain about a radio comment.
"Don't be stupid enough to think you can make something out of nothing," he angrily told the hosts. "That's how dumb, idiotic rumors get started by people who don't know the game. I have nothing but the utmost respect for Pedro. . . . He's a great guy. We get along awesome."
