Holy Toledo! Four good starts in a row, even by the spotty Lackey, the inconsistent Byrd, the Erratic Washburn. Now Escobar is putting together another quality start. And Colon gets better as the season goes on; he loves to pitch in hot weather. If the Angels staff can keep this up, we'll be the most dangerous team in baseball.

Pitching was pretty good for the weekend series against the Tigers.. 8 runs in three games. Not bad. Washburn lost, but it was a good game. Lackey just got better run support.

As of 5/18/05, the Angels had the fourth best team ERA in the American League, about 3.79 as I recall. That's pretty damn good by modern standards.

A week later, the good pitching continues. Washburn pitched pretty well last night, adn only made two mistkes. Colon was again superb. Lackey has been growing in consistency. Santana startled everybody. All we need is Escobar back.

At this point, our team ERA is 3.74, which is pretty good. That puts us at 7th in the MLB and 4th in the AL. That's pretty good. If we can keep it up, we can be a pretty dangerous team in the playoffs.

That 3.74 is at least a run less than it was at this time a year ago. It's too bad Escobar can't stay healthy, though. Now he's down again, lined up for another MRI. This could be Washburn's chance to stand up and shine.

Washburn really needs to step up. If Escobar can't stay healthy (or not even stay in the game till the fifth, ala last night) we need someone to step it up. I doubt it will be Lackey, but I think Washburn can and should step it up.

This a great opportunity for that skinny kid, Ervin (dont call me Carlos) Santana. He looked just exceptional his last time out, and here's his chance. I mean, who knows when Escobar will actually be healthy?

Escobar might never be healthy. It's a serious problem for him. I think that Santana will step it up in his absence and solidify his spot in the rotation. Well, I hope so.

Well you're right that Escobar has established a pattern of getting injured. And that doesn't look good for a longterm career. But Santana is young and apparently healthy, and if his second start is any indication, he should fill in quite nicely.

I kid you not. These guys are good. Four of five starters have an ERA of under 4.00 and we have the best team ERA in baseball. Our bullpen already has something like 15 wins, which means we come back late a lot. Once Santana matures a little he'll be astounding too. 5 quality starters AND the best bullpen in the league. And an offense that's starting to pull together. I smell World Series.
