I didn't see the game, but why is he still in there to give up a third homerun?

Damn damn... you won't believe this, but I was on the road again when this happened.

I really don't know why he'd still be out there for the third homerun. After one I'd get a guy warming up, after two bring him in. Oz still left him out there after the third homerun to let two more guys on base.

Oz will learn. Not good managing.

and vizcaino has been out there for 54 pitches as i type this. Bad managing.

Since Ozzie had used almost everyone he didn't have much left.

Oz is one of those "I like this guy so I don't want to pull him" coaches....not necessarily a good or bad way of doing it....but his faith might lead him down the wrong path without yankee quality talent...

Kinda like yesterday's game. Totally in control and lost it. Just pure bad luck

That was pathetic. Looking at a sweep in the top of the 9th and 3 solo shots. Shoulda pulled him.

Ozzie was right leaving him in the game. Almost every manager leaves their closer in the game after he gives up a homerun since normally after that they will settle down and get some outs.

Everyone talks about how many games a manager can actually help a team win or lose. Well, this game you can make a mark in the loss column against Ozzy. What the Hell was he thinking?!?!?

to be honest, i leave him in there too. looking back it seems wrong, but at the moment it seemed right to me. this is our closer. what are the odds he gives up a 3rd home run before getting one more out?
it was just ....... crap fortune.

To me it's different if... let's say, a guy gets on by a walk or error, then the next guy comes up and hits a dinger. The sox are still up one and I leave him in and see what happens, because he's really only given up the homer.

However, after the second homer, you realize this kid doesn't have his stuff today AND right now he's got zero confidence, and you put in someone ready to get the job done, not leave one in who's not playing with confidence.

But the situation contradicts what Ozzy was quoted as saying in SportsWeekly just this week about having the luxury of 4 closers (Shingo, Marte, Hermanson and Vizcaino). If he thinks he has this many closers he should have had one of the other ones warming up after the first dinger.

I know hindsight is 20/20 but these are his words above.

I believe he'll use this as a learning inventure. I mean, how could you not. You see your guy doesn't have it today. You take his ass out. He doesn't have the luxury of a starter to get himself right in a few innings.

There will be alot of suffering for Sox fans during this season.. Takatsu won't need to blow saves for the TWins to win :)

i don't know what he was quoted as saying, but i know i have read where he says shingo is his closer (not ONE of his closers) and that he still has confidence in him. and this was after yesterday's game.

btw, i believe what i would have done BEFORE the fact was leave hermanson in to start the 9th. he was effective and should have been allowed another inning. i don't know why managers think the closer always has to be brought in.

i still say tho that once shingo was in, i believe i would have allowed him to stay in there. i think as an isolated event it made sense. it just didn't work.
the odds against what he did have to be phenominal.
