Ok guys, I've gone round and round with this thing and had to make a lot of changes as the Denver Brown-co's developed. Nevertheless, here it is..
1. San Francisco selects - Braylon Edwards, WR Michigan
2. Miami selects - Aaron Rodgers, QB California. Miami knows that RB’s are deep this year and elite QBs are not, so they snag a future star while they can and start trying to figure out how they can get a 2nd round pick from someone so they can pick a RB then (Eric Shelton maybe?). Plus Aaron just looks like he belongs in a Dolphins uni, doesn’t he?
3. Cleveland - selects Mike Williams WR USC
4. Chicago selects – Ronnie Brown, RB Auburn The Bears really wanted one of those big WRs, but since they are gone, Chicago goes with plan ‘B’. Thomas Jones is good, but the Bears see all the elite RBs still on the board and cannot resist the opportunity to improve here.
5. Tampa Bay selects – Carnell Williams, RB Auburn
6. Tennessee selects – Antrel Rolle, CB Miami
7. Minnesota selects – Derrick Johnson, OLB Texas
8. Arizona selects – Cedric Benson, RB Texas.
9. Houston selects - Adam “Pac-Man” Jones, CB West Virginia Houston trades their third round selection (#73) to Washington and jumps up to the 9th pick. When they see Rolle go, they know the Pac-Man will go quickly. They get the Pac Man here…and there was much rejoicing. Charley Casserly has done wheeling and dealing on draft day in the past and since he has 2 round 3 picks.
10. Philadelphia selects - Troy Williamson WR South Carolina. Detroit trades the number 10 pick to the Philadelphia Eagles for the 31st pick, Philadelphia’s first second round selection (#35 overall), one of their third round picks (#94 overall) and a 4th round selection (#`132). Philly has a wealth of picks this year, so they can afford to do a deal that brings them another target for McNabb….and Williamson is a burner who will make TO even better. I foresee TO and TW being referred to as “T&T” in no time.
11. Dallas selects - Shawne Merriman, OLB Maryland
12. San Diego selects - Mark Clayton, WR Oklahoma
13. Washington selects – Brandon Browner, CB Oregon State. Houston trades a third round selection (#73) to Washington who drops down to the 13th pick. Washington needs the extra 3rd rounder because they traded their 2nd rounder to New Orleans. Washington is thinking two good WRs are still on the board…but Philly (with all their picks) jumps in and takes their guy, and SD takes their plan ‘B’ guy, so they decide to hold off on selecting a WR until later. With the loss of Smoot, Browner is a big-time prospect who will add to Harris and Springs. Henry would have been a reach at this point.
14. Carolina selects - Alex Barron, OT Florida State
15. Kansas City selects - Alex Smith, QB Utah. The Chiefs really need a CB, but with Rolle and Jones off the board, they cannot pass on Smith when Trent Green is turning 35 in July.
16. New Orleans selects – Thomas Davis, S Georgia
17. Cincinnati selects – Travis Johnson, DT Florida State
18. Minnesota selects – Reggie Brown WR Georgia. Reggie’s stock has been on the rise and his 41.5 inch vertical overcomes his less-than-ideal 6’2” height. He has excellent RAC as well.
19. St. Louis selects – Brodney Pool S Oklahoma. Having just missed out on Davis, the Rams are still well pleased to see Pool still on the board at this point. Now they don’t have to worry about Archuletas back so much.
20. Dallas selects – David Pollack, DE Georgia. With Merriman already in the bag, Dallas is very excited about this upgrade to their defense.
21. Jacksonville selects – Jammal Brown, OT Oklahoma
22. Indianapolis selects – Erasmus James, DE Wisconsin Baltimore trades first round picks with Indianapolis. Indianapolis gives up their 3rd round pick #92 overall to move up. Indianapolis ends up with the next Dwight Freeney to add to the original. The combination is scary to think about.
23. Seattle selects – Marcus Spears DE, LSU
24. Green Bay selects – Carlos Rogers, CB Auburn. While there are no safeties remaining worthy of a #24, there are some excellent CB’s and Rogers has the tools to convert to safety (ala Michael Boulware). Rogers has awesome ball skills and jumping ability.
25. Detroit selects – Dan Cody, DE Oklahoma. With three decent defensive ends still on the board at #25, Denver moves down to the 31 spot. Matt Millen has shown his willingness to trade up or down (like he did last year) to get players in particular positions he wants. The Lions need depth at many positions, so the extra picks from Philly (for the #10 spot) will help them a great deal. But, while sitting at #31, Detroit sees the good defensive ends are dropping quickly, so they move back up from 31 to 25 by giving Denver the 3rd rounder they acquired from Philly (#94). The Lions set their sights on Shazor in the 2nd round at #35 knowing they have #41 left to go for an OT or G and an extra 4th rounder to help plug another hole.
26. New York Jets selects – Anttaj Hawthorne DT, Wisconsin
27. Atlanta selects – Shaun Cody, DE USC
28. San Diego selects – Matt Roth DE, Iowa
29. Baltimore selects –Elton Brown G, Virginia. Baltimore picks up another 3rd round pick (#92) to drop down 7 spots. This is a small reach for the best guard in the draft, but if fills a huge need.
30. Pittsburgh selects – Heath Miller TE, Virginia. Even adding Cedrick Wilson is not enough for the Steelers. This big target will make their young QB look very good.
31. Denver selects – Chris Henry, WR West Virginia . Philly jumps at the chance to move up and get a WR and Matt Millen has shown his willingness to trade up or down (like he did last year) to get players in particular positions he wants. The Lions need depth at many positions, so the extra picks from Philly will help them a great deal. But then Detroit sees the good defensive ends are dropping quickly, so they move back up from 31 to 25. Denver Brown-co’s are more than happy to accommodate them and they get a big wide-out for Jake in the deal. They are well pleased.
32. New England selects – Chris Canty DE Virginia. The Patriots wanted an ILB here, but none of the headliners are still on the board, so they add some youth to their linebacking core. Belichick’s system uses DE’s that are tall, 250 lbs plus and excellent athletes. These players are rare, and Canty (at almost 6’8” and 285 lbs) is one. The Patriots know he will be gone by their next pick, so they nab him here. When you are the champs, you can do stuff like this (This is my official reach…you gotta have at least one).
