Only two weeks into the season and look who's gone for extended periods of time or for the rest of the season.
Mike Brown - Achilles
Mike Rosenthal - Foot
Kellen Winslow - Leg
Deuce McCallister - Ankle
Larry Chester - Knee
Julius Jones - Shoulder
Charles Rogers - Collarbone
Steve Smith - Leg
Stephen Davis - Knee
Zach Pillar - Ruptured Biceps
All starters for their respective teams. I am sure if I researched it more, there are still others of the 2 to 4 week variety.
It is the fact of life in the NFL that players get injured. But as they get even bigger, stronger and faster the rate of attrition will continue to rise.
So what is a solutiion? Expanding rosters even more? Splitting the season into two 8 week seasons and a two week break between? Wouldn't help for the players that have been IR'ed, but for the stretch run it might help the nicked up players.
A shame the sport that is the most popular is also the most physically brutal. Modern day gladiators in the true Roman sense of the word.
