How long do you think it'll take before both Goodenow and Bettman get fired?

Perhaps the question should be who's management team gets fired first, NHL or NHLPA? I would go with the later.

Even better question right there.

Goodenow screwed himself when he said he'd take a cap, that pissed off too many people for him to still have a job when this is all said and done.

I just want my damn hockey back. I can live with replacement players, but only because I know it would just be one step closer to getting the real ones back.

If this happens maybe I should go tryout for the Bluejackets.

There will be hockey in September, regardless of if it's replacements or the greey punks. I'm sure it will be replacements with some NHL defectors.
This whole situation is turning the league into a joke.

yes it is. Now if we can just get back to playing hockey we can start working on the other busines that is yet unfinished.....

.....moving the rest of the franchises from Canada to the US.

I'm not even going to touch the moving comment....

As soon as they reach an agreement though they have to find a way to improve the game, via bigger rink, no red line, touch up offside, or something else, they have to find something.

I've been a NHLPA supporter, but Goodenow should be fired 1st. His job was to get the players the best deal possible. Any deal they get now or later will be worse than what they turned down a month ago. He has failed.

Then they can fire that ass clown Bettman next. If i ever see that little bastard walking down the street me and him are gonna go wiether he likes it or not. I'll show him the meaning of an instigator rule.

We should get rid of Bettman then replace him with Gretzky.

We should get rid of Bettman then replace him with Gretzky.Of course, because Gretzky has so much business expereince and a tremendous amount of success too.

Yeah I'm kinda liking the idea of having Gretzky as commissioner and Mario as NHLPA boss, but I really think thats a dream.

Whoever the next commish is he's going to do a better job than what Bettman has done.

IMO for the commissioner and the PA job I think you need an equal amount of business and hockey intelligence.

Right now the hockey knowledge is lacking. While guys like Gretz and Mario would bring alot of hockey smarts to the table, they would lack the business sense needed.

The need to get people in there with a good mix of both.

Really though Bettman is the face of the NHL, he works for the Board of Governors (the owners) Plus he has Bill Daly who is a smart guy. Let Wayne or Mario or Orr run things because they do have some business sense but if they need help the other people are already in place to help them. Plus lets say the NHL commish is sitting down with NBC working on a TV deal, who are the NBC people more inclinded to listen to about hockey, Wayne Gretzky or Gary Bettman??

Thats a great point. The NHL needs more of a leader because their assistants can always pick up the slack on the actual business end of it.

But I really think the thing that Shanahan started, some committee, will really help the league. Something to enhance the performance, a great idea.

I actually think Bettman will survive this one. He wasn't the one that caved and it is a certainty that whatever agreement eventually comes about will have the salary cap. The owners lost less money by not playing, so he's basically a hero.

The thing that neither side has taken into account is the lost credibility and the marginal fans that will take years to get back into arenas.

Yes I would agree that someone likes Gretzky carries a certain star power that would command attention and respect. I just don't agree when people just assume that because he was a great player that he'll be a great commish. Great athletes usually don't pan out to make great GMs or coaches, so who knows how he'd do as the commissioner. He could be great/mediocre/terrible. Who knows? I just think its funny that pretty much everyone thinks that The Great One=The Great Commish.

Everything you said is true. We dont know if he would make a good Commish, but what we do know is he would be better than Bettman. He puts a name and a face on the NHL, they'll need to do something big to bring back the casual fans. Plus on an internal issue, the players and owners would respect him, something that the NHL doesn't have right now.
