UWM up 19-16 right now.... BIG hustle from these guys and BC cant figure out the trap. Had an 8-0 lead early and as soon as that first bucket fell for UWM, the press went into effect and its giving BC headaches. GO UWM!!

wow, UWM is straight out hustling BC, playing with lots of intensity. BC has to burn ANOTHER timeout because of the press. 23-19 UWM

Even though BC winning would help my bracket, it doesn't matter. I lost anyways. I'm rooting for UMW all the way baby!!! I love Cinderella teams. Great game so far.

Please keep up the updates. Down here in AZ we get ... you guessed it, AZ and nothing else.
There is one referee right now who deserves some very strong words.
And a punch in the face.

I had BC losing in the second round.
Too bad it was to 'Bama.
What'd the ref do? (other than the obvious bad calls <grin>)THe same joker continues to stink this game up.
He called McCants for a technical on a totally BS "touching" on the back.
He just missed a BC player right in front of him stiff arm a Panther in the neck.
BC has more free throws to cut into Panter leads than they have shots from the field.

Well, I'd like to kick that ref, who missed that forearm to the throat, in the nuts.
That should have been a technical foul - 2 FTs for UW-Mil and possession....

Since they completely caught that on tape - is there any chance the NCAA would discipline that player, should BC go on?

If they gave McCants a "T" for a little shove in the back, the ought to have given the BC guy a Double "T".
Yes, a long way to go. But BC, looks a helluva lot more rattled than UW-Milwaukee.

I don't normally complain about refs, you get good calls, and some bad calls, generally speaking.
But it's as fucking obvious as can possibly be that these refs are doing everything in their power to make sure UWM doesn't advance.
How can NO contact at all be an intentional foul ?

The announcers are acting like there was contact, which caused the shooter to drop to the floor in a heap...
Of course, a forearm to the throat is a no-call in this game, too....

That he did, but even with how horrible he played, had the game been called halfway decent even with his play they wouldn't have lost.

Secondly, just how far is that joke of a RF Sosa going to stand away from the plate this year? :)

Wins are wins.
Not winning the championship means the same thing whether you lost in the series or finished dead last...or so some football fans tell me.

To be sure, pitpen. ;) Why bring the Brewers into this? You're the one who didn't want anybody bashing Sosa in the Oriole thread and then you come in here with "the fork" graphic.
The Panthers may very well get beat next week by #1 Illinois but for right now there's 2 teams in the bracket that would gladly trade places with the Panthers for their shot at Illinois . . . except they weren't good enough!

No...I did a report on it for statistics using data from the last 25 years and there wasn't even close to enough evidence to say that increased payrolls lead to higher wins, or more World Series titles.
The Mets, Orioles and other teams like those over the last 25 years being largely responsible (The Athletics and Braves did their part as well).

Or we could do it from the last 10 years, which is far more relevant, because it was after the strike in 94 that the difference between the haves and the have nots really started to widen.
Out of 80 playoff teams in the last 10 years, 6 have come from the bottom 20% of the league based on salary.
Tell me that's not a telling statistic.

No...you can't do that. The sample would have been too small for some of the tests.
Also, you can't just look at one piece of evidence to prove or disprove causation.

Too small a sample?
10 years, and 80 playoff teams I'd say is more than large enough, especially when it's only in the last 10 years that the disparity between the top tier and bottom tier has become so vast.
The only thing the Orioles and Mets prove is that spending assloads of cash doesn't guarantee you'll MAKE the playoffs, but NOT spending it guarantees your chances of making the playoffs are greatly diminished.

Tell that to the Athletics and Braves, who have probably been to the playoffs 15 or more times in the last ten years. Also, tell that to the Twins, who have been there in recent years. Those teams may not be in the bottom 20% of the league over the last ten years, but they are damn close and they still win consistently.
Then look at teams like the Dodgers, Orioles, Mets and Rangers. Payroll alone is not that great a factor in determining whether a team is successful. The use of the minor leagues, general management and concentration of payroll on pitching (Braves/Marlins) all have a greater effect on winning than overall payroll.
Having a hundred million dollar payroll certainly brings a lot of talent and potential, but it isn't that great a factor on winning.
