Ill take philly in a squeaker

I got Philly with a 31-21 win (we will NOT kick a FG from less than 35 yards with Mortamore). I'm really pumped about the TO/84 interface. Minny fan, Philly fan, football fan in general, you gotta watch this game tonight.

The keys to this game are...
#1 - Ignore the Moss - Owens debate and give the ball to Onterrio and Mewelde...we need to establish a good run game.
#2 - After that, we need to go deep and test the Eagles secondary...are they worse without Vincent and Taylor, some think yes, some think no...the only way to find out for sure is to send KC, M-Rob, or Moss deep on them.
#3 - Stop the Eagles from running the ball...for everything our secondary isn't, it is a ball-hawking secondary. If you pass the ball 40+ times on this defense we will come away with some turnovers (as evidenced last week...2 forced fumbles after completed passes, caused by hard hits)
#4 - One big kick or punt return...this is going to be a close game and something like this could be just enough to swing things in our direction.
Overall, I look for a very good, exciting, and hopefully injury free game.
SKOL VIKES!!!

after watching impressive offensive performances from both teams last week... this could be like colts-chiefs in the playoffs last year. Very, very few punts and alot of scoring. It will be interesting to see with two primetime receivers in the game how the enforcement of the rules are used.

The Vikings need to get pressure early and often. If they do that, McNabb could get antsy in the pocket like he did on first down and then start throwing skipping stones instead of passes.

Ken Irvin - Ruptured his achilles. His presence will be missed, but we did sign Terrence Shaw to take his place, so it won't be as big of an impact, as Irvin was our nickel back anyway.

Moss does a lot of talking, but he's afraid to take a hit. I saw him duck out of bounds like 3 or 4 times when an Eagle came within like 1-2 yards. Aren't good team players supposed to try and gain as many yards as possible? Only QBs should be running out of bounds because they are so vital to a teams success, and in many cases (althogh this game is def an exception), the QBs are pretty fragile.
Go Eagles!!!!

IMO, that's the logic of a Moss-hater (Not saying you are, but that's their logic). Randy Moss is the most vital part of our offense. You'll see a lot of WRs run out of bounds. I've seen Moss do it, I've seen Holt do it, I've seen Harrison do it, etc.
If he already has the first down and knows he can only get maybe 1 or 2 yards, it's not THAT big of a deal if he runs out of bounds. I'm willing to give up a couple of yards for a healthy Randy Moss.

Yo guys. I won't get too many posts in, as I don't have a TV in this same room, and my bro has been on the computer. Decent game so far. Not too suprised that it's not as high scoring as most thought.
Moss made a comment about that during an offseason interview. He says he does it to get into the heads of the opposing defenders. They are so key on hitting him and then he steps out of bounds, it frustrates them, and they're easier to burn deep because of their frustration.
That's what Randy said anyway.
I was wondering who was on the horse trailer from last week's game.
There wasn't one
Don't think they are doing that this year

Wow. This halftime piece on Tice is rather fascinating. Surprised that they let the bit about Hovan in there.

DC should have just thrown that ball...TE was wide open...sometimes he tries to do too much.
THAT being said...not a bad first half..I'm a little worried that Philly gets the ball first, we sure haven't stopped them so far, other then the one fumble caused by our secondary.
IF we can stop them on their first drive look for a long pass to start our first drive..try and open things up a bit...we need some points.

This game is FAR from over. Don't understand why all the pessimism. Granted the Vikings have been held out of the end zone, but they're still only 1 score down.
I guess the only thing I would question would be the lack of hardly any shots downfield. I know I've said this before, but they should take a shot downfield to Moss at least 3 times a half. Penalty or catch, don't matter.

We should get get a kicker for outside duties only. Morten is done. 44 yard outside a good (younger) kicker makes. The only way we win is stopping them, a TD and a 2 point conv. Not likely.

If you take a look at the replay in slow-mo, TO actually had possession for just a sec. Right before he hit the ground. Then when his body made contact w/the ground, he juggled the ball a little. So it's really a debatable call. But he did have it for just a sec.
Goodnight.

JayGlow, that was no catch! The nanosecond that Owens had it. was immediately negated when he bobbled it when he was on the ground and out of bounds.
He has to have possession when he lands. And in no way did he have that! How the official, who is standing right there, can't see that is beyond me.
Of course, how the VIkings coaching staff didn't get that play reviewed is beyond my limited means of comprehension.

Long story, but I'm not up to typing it out right now...will let everyone in on it tomorrow.
BTW...Vikings really cost themselves a victory tonight..was able to catch bits and pieces in the hospital waiting room...
Philly did just enough not to lose. Bad coaching, bad play-calling, one bad play by DC, and HORRIBLE special teams....all that leads to a loss....
WHY OH WHY do the Vikes get so conservative on the road...it's like we're two different teams.
Oh well....a week two loss on the road can't get a guy down too much, we just need to rebound and beat Chicago going into the bye.

Glad to hear it PG!
One word of advice on playing the Bears next week: Don't dismiss them as a win. Packer fans speak from experience.
If you take a look at the replay in slow-mo, TO actually had possession for just a sec. Right before he hit the ground. Then when his body made contact w/the ground, he juggled the ball a little. So it's really a debatable call. But he did have it for just a sec.
Goodnight.
LOL come on man. That was NOT a catch. period. rules of the game is the reciever has to demonstrate and maintain possesion when he comes down. In this case, he came down before the goalline, then bobbled, then slide out of bounds, then on top of that the tip of the ball hit the ground. no catch....in slo-mo
I'm a lions fan and also a Don and TO fan, so of course I was rooting for Philly. But I call it like it is. I doubt you'd analyse it the way you did had it been Moss instead of TO. assuming you're a Philly fan. I don't see how you can look at that in slo-mo and say it was a TD. even if he did have it for a split second and there was no demonstrate/maintain possesion rule, his knee STILL touched down before the bobbled ball crossed the goal line after his body went out of bounds. More wrong than right happened on that 'catch'.
doesn't matter. minn didn't challege and it counts. Minn's fault. Not Philly's. To be fair, it did look legit going at live speed. it wasn't until seeing the replay that I said "WHOOOOA, hold on now....". Point is, Minn's guys in the both should have seen the same thing we saw in slo-mo and called for a review. They didn't. Their fault.
That said, I'm glad Philly won. Lions are alone at the top of the NFC North. Even a loss to Philly this sunday would keep them at least tied for first. still early, but it feels good as a Lions fan.

09-21-2004, 10:28 PM
I don't believe I ever said it def was a TD, but I said it was open to interpretation. I was basically playing the Devil's Advocate (which for some reason I seem to enjoy), and yea, I was trying to come up with an excuse to make it a TD.
But, what I was sayin was that he grabs the ball out of the air, bobbles it a little. As he's coming down he has a grip on the ball w/his fingertips for a split-second. Then, when he hits the ground, he bobbles it again. Remember, the ground can't cause a 'fumble'.
It's not a big deal, cuz its over & done with. Just giving you a dif insight.
