I've been offered Jim Thome and Brian Giles for Todd Helton and Scott Podsednik. My team is stacked with speed so losing Podsednik isn't a big deal but is this a good trade. Being a Phillies fan, I obviously want Big Jim but is it worth it here?

I think I would do it. Thats a win - win for you.

I'd say yes too, If Pods repeats last year you get two guys for one basically. Pods is bad.

Thanks for helping me in our league :)

Imo it depends on the categories that the league has and if its a roto league. If its roto, Pods value goes up because Sb's are so hard to come by and he can single handedly lift a team from the bottom to the top in Sb's.
Im also not a big fan of Giles at this point. Hes 35 or 36 and plays in 1 of the worst hitting parks in MLB history. The days of him being 300-35-110-15sbs are over.

It's H2H and I have Crawford, Roberts, JRoll, and Sanders to steal bases.
Hell yeah do it. SBs in H2H aren't that important. You get more HRs, RBI, Runs. You really only lose Avg an Ks. You get two potential 100 Run, 100 RBI guys for 1. Pods doesn't do shit for you other than SBs.

Let's look back...Is it still a good trade?

Well I'm in first in the league, so you tell me.
I traded Sheets for Edmonds last week. You tell me. He should be out only a few more days anyway. That's in a keeper league though and I needed to stack my line up a litle bit more.
Look at this line up:
C Varitek
1b D. Lee
2b Giles
ss Renteria
3b Mora
OF Sheff
OF MAnny
OF Edmonds
Ut Alou
Ut Lugo, Gibbons, Burnitz, Cameron
DL Chipper
When Chipper gets back I will be happy.
I always love a "No-Brainer" ....
It's a hoot to see what comes next.
Well....
Thome and Giles for Podsednik and Helton. I would have to say no, don't do the trade. The reason being is that you can command much more for Podsednik. He can single handedly carry a team in the SB category. Therefore, you don't have to waste roster spots on other guys who only get an average amount of steals.
Thome is now back on the DL and who knows if he will ever reach consistency again this season (I have him on a number of my teams and I just have to hope he can come around in the 2nd half). Giles isn't that great overall and won't add much value to your team unless you are really lacking power.
As much as I like Helton, its hard to believe he will have a .270-.280 season batting like he is. However, there is very little support around him in that lineup. Preston Wilson is not having as good as a year as he should be considering it is a contract year and Barmes is out for a long time. He won't get too many pitches to hit, but you have to figure he will get better.
Basically Podsednik is of very high value - you can probably trade him and helton to someone who has very little speed on their team for a Cliff Floyd, Manny Ramirez, Miguel Cabrera type player. That will be much more helpful than Giles and Thome combined.
Hope that helped.

I did the trade a long time ago. The original post was from 3/16.
Haha, my bad....At that point, its a little different then. I just joined the site and overlooked the dates.

No problem, I'm in first in the league anyway and have Howard filling in for Thome at the moment.

if you got speed already, go for it, unless that other guy is a really good contender and by boosting his speed might overthrow you
