First baseman Roberto Petagine (http://redsox.bostonherald.com/redSox/view.bg?articleid=72757), who the Sox were counting on to provide pop off the bench and to spell Kevin Millar at first base at times, will have knee surgery and will miss at least a month.

Slugging first baseman/DH David Ortiz was one of the Sox players tested (http://www.boston.com/sports/baseball/redsox/articles/2005/03/11/red_sox_undergo_first_steroid_testing/)for steroids Thursday.
"They pick me [to be tested] every time," Ortiz said. "I don't know why. I don't know if it's because I'm a big guy, or what, but all I know is all they are going to find is a lot of rice and beans."When he says a lot of rice and beans I get the feeling he means it. I'd love to see what he eats at a typical dinner.
