I only have one closer (brad lidge) and I needed to fill the other closer. I traded Carl Pavano and I got Billy Wagner. Since I only had one closer what do you guys think of this trade?
Also in another league I traded Pavano, Radke, Kent for Kolb, Baez, and Giles. I realize that this trade wasn't the best but my only closer was Urbina and I basically needed 2 closers and Marcus is my boy. Hit me with some feedback.

As a Mets fan I find it ridiculous that im helping a braves fan but here it goes:
- dump urbina unless your league counts holds. Percival is Det's new closer.
- good move on pavano/wagner deal. Pavano will win some games but i think his era/whip will go up and his K's down.

I like the trade you did for Wagner for Pavano. Pavano will not do as well this year in my opinion. He had one good year and has not had to deal with the pressures of the New York media. It seems a lot of good pitchers go to New York (Vazquez, Brown, Weaver and so on) and do not do as well.
On Urbina he could have value. He will more than likely be traded to someone in need of a closer. When is the problem. It could be tomorrow, end of spring training or by the trading deadline. It is up to you if you want to drop him then.

I'm not sold on Pavano at all. Wagner is a stud as long as he's healthy. The first deal is a good one.
The second one I don't like at all.
I like Marcus Giles too, but it just goes to show how people will overpay sometimes for their favorite players.
The key to winning is to not get caught up with your heart.
Don't worry about your favorite guys. Get them if you can at a fair price, but don't get bent over for them.
You had no closers?
New closers emerge every year, and saves is only one category.
I wouldn't have overreacted to not having any closers when there are sure to be injuries and guys losing their jobs as the season progresses.
That's how I'd approach it anyways.

I would go with sportznut on this one, he knows what the hell he is talking about.

LMAO.
I'll never live down the Italian stereotypes, will I?
P.S.-I like it that way.
I don't know everything as I'm wrong quite often myself, but I'm always driven to make my team the best one out there.
I generally find myself in the championship game more often than not.
I did so last year in one league even with a 6th place team.

Yes, you did, but who ended up beating you in that game?
By the way, the first trade was straight up robbery. Good job on that Sir Marcus.
The second trade, well, I have to agree with everyone else. You could have gotten better value, but it wasn't disastrous or anything.

Closers are pretty overrated in leagues that don't go by points. It is after all one category, but there is a strategy to use that is pretty effective for people. Using maybe a couple of the best starter match ups every week and just running relievers in all the other slots.
I see it quite a bit. It works well if implemented right. Typically you can win a bunch of the stat categories. You will get Saves, WHIP, ERA most likely every week. Ks comes once in a while. Even wins will net you that point about half the time if you also use 8th inning guys. It's a risky strategy, but if you have a powerful line up you are pretty much gold since you can pick most of those guys up off of waivers. That all depends on the stat categories needed.

if anything, closers and RP in general are grossly underrated in most leagues. A good RP will help in at least 4 categories

I agree with that in most leagues. I can not change my line up in a month with 2 starters and 5 closers out there and take most of the pitching points. It depends on the categories though. They are good for WHIP, ERA, Saves, K/9, but most leagues don't use that fourth category. If you add in IP and a couple other ones it hurts your pitching points overall. It is pretty easy to find Middle relievers who pitch almost everyday with ERAs under 2.50 and WHIPs under 1.10. The problem with most of those guys is the don't put up Ks. If you happen to play in a league with holds it is cake to fill your pitching staff out. Holds is a stupid category though.
I had a pitching staff last year on a team that used Holds, Ks, Ws, ERA, K/9 and WHIP. My staff was Rivera, Clemmons, Scmidt, Fr. Rodrieguez, Izzy, Gordon, Bj Ryan, Ol. Perez, Worrel, and one other guy i can't remember. I got at least half those guys off of waivers. Nobody got points for holds because they didn't know the category. I usually picked up at least 4 of those 6 categories every week.

I picked up Rincon and Mota off waivers last year... Those two were better then some of the highly ranked SP
they combined for about 170+ IP with 20 wins, 6 saves, 190+Ks with awesome ERA and WHIP
