Ok, this might be a little "out there".... but here's an interesting notion.
This lockout may end up being a blessing in disguise for the Rangers for one reason:
Sidney Crosby.
He was scheduled to enter the league this season, but now he's most likely going to sign with another Pro League in the interim, since the NHL is not in operation.
When the NHL comes back, he may be a free agent, and not draft eligible, after playing with another pro league.
How about that. The best player to come along in a generation and the New York Rangers, of all teams, are free to get into a bidding war for the guy.
I would do whatever it takes to make sure this guy is a Ranger whenever he decides to join the NHL. And as far as the league is concerned, you don't want this guy playing some place like Columbus or Pheonix. I'm sorry, you just don't. This guy has to be in either an Original 6 market, or one of the top 10 markets in the league (which many of the Original 6 are).
We're talking.... New York Rangers, Detroit Redwings, Toronto Maple Leafs, Philadelphia Flyers, or some other big-exposure team.
Sorry if I'm going over the top, but man, it would be exciting to get a player of that caliber on the Rangers.
