I think power rankings are idiotic to begin with, but the ones on Fox even crack addicts would say "what the hell are you thinking?"

Specifically I'm looking at Carolina, Green Bay, Minnesota, and Dallas. Logic? Not in their little world:

#10 Green Bay dominates #2 Carolina, runs all over them, crushing the strength of their defense and winning by 10 points (mostly because they toned it down and didn't embarrass Carolina when they could have). They move up 2 to #8, Carolina moves down 1 to #3 in the league.

#13 Minnesota defeats #11 Dallas. Their offense does a nice job against an injury depleted defense, but their defense looks horrible giving up over 350 yards to Vinnie "Grandpa" Testaverde, over 400 total yards. They skyrocket up the power rankings PAST THE PACKERS 6 slots to #7. Dallas plummets 4 spaces to #15.

Excuse me?

Green Bay crushes the 2nd best team in the NFL, Minnie defeats (but shows a glaring, remaining, weakness in their secondary) while defeating the #11 team and they "prove" they're actually better than Green Bay? It makes even less sense if you look at the current rankings. Green Bay defeated the #3 team in the league, on the road, and they're only the #8 team. Minny defeated the #15 team, at home, and they're the #7 team?

Power rankings are stupid, but these are just f'n moronic.

You can always look at mine :)

Although, I must admit, with only 1 week of data mine are still a little out of whack.

the vikings offense looked unstoppable....cowboys scored how many points?

and the vikings lost their starter just before the game, their nickel back just before half and they kept attack those void. Vikings brought in terrance shaw who's an ok nickel back.

But your point is somewhat valid. But realize many writers think MN will be the better team this year, and GB fans have a hard time accepting that.

I can't speak for other Packer fans, but I know that the media is right on their predictions about 5% of the time, so what they say really doesn't bother me. After all, it's just their opinion, no different than anyone else's. My contention is that until last week, all the writers had to go on was what was on paper, within the next month or so they'll be able to form an opinion based on performance rather than names and previous play.

The Vikings had a good offense last season as well. Everyone knew their offense would be strong (or at least anyone with any sense). My point remains their defense which looked horrible against a rather pathetic offense.

And Dallas was missing a key DB, against a team that can pass like crazy?

Based on a perceived better defense and alleged GB slippage. Neither was shown to be the case last week.

Heading out to the Packer bar, only way I can watch the game this week. Oh, and it isn't because it's the Vikings, it just happened to leap out at me because I was looking at both teams. It would drive me nuts if any #13 team beat a #11 team and jumped ahead of the #10 team that defeated the #2 team on the road. Sorry, doesn't make any sense. I could see bumping Minny up into the top 10, they should have been there to begin with, but up to #7 leap frogging a team that defeated a better opponent on the road? No, sorry, doesn't work for me.

GB played a team starting an enitre new O line

and again, how many points did cowboys score?

with their offense, they should've scored 9 at best...all field goals

one was a long TD against a DB not expected to play....

17 lousy points...points is all that matters....

uh, you were saying???

I know, I know...power rankings are stupid. So much so that when a fan's team isn't listed where they think it should be, they type a long post dogging the entire ranking. Nevermind that the ranker had the forthsight to know GB would get crushed by the Bears this week at Lambeau...after the Bears lost to the Lions at home in week one. :D

Actually the "experts" had the Packers winning across the board. My point remains valid the movement didn't make any sense for that week.
