Well, let me start by saying that the Packers should soundly defeat the Bears and that is probably the consensous of the media.
ALL OF THAT MEANS SQUAT!!!!!
If Mike Sherman has shown anything in his tenure it is the tendancy to lose to inferior teams.
Tennessee in 2001 with the division lead at stake.
The Jets in 2002, the Vikings in 2002, the Lions in 2003, the Cards in 2003.
The Packers should make this their hallmark game- the game that catpults them into the favorite staus in the NFC.
I see a 37-10 type victory.
Anything less is a setback and will not strike fear into other NFC teams.
No disrespect to the Bears. Actually, I respect the Bears franchise more than any other, even though I hate their team. I just think that they are 2 years away from being a serious contender.

theres no reason why this game should be even close.... our vanilla D last year kept teams like this in games, but slowiks pressure scheme should cause AT LEAST 3 turnovers. Thats what i like about this defense, it should allow us to get convincing wins against bad teams

In the history of this rivalry, standings, talent and momentum do not really seem to matter. Anything can happen.
That said, I believe that the Pack should/will whoop up on the Bears!

I see the Packers perhaps stumbling early. They want to protect Green and not overwork him (with Davenport out) so I think it'll slow their offense a bit initially. Then they'll take off, 2nd or 3rd quarter go up by 14-21 points. The Bears will score something in the 4th quarter, fairly meaningless, but then the Packers will have to respond.
I think it ends up being a 7-10 point game, but mostly because Sherman reigns in the horses and avoids embarassing the Bears.

Brett has had the Bear's number, regardless of what else has changed, so I feel confident in a GB win. The only thing that concerns me is Chicago got rid of their milk-toast OC. Who knows, they may actually try a 10 yard pattern on 3rd and 8...

Dag...we get no love. First let me say that we won't win this game and the Bears aren't going anywhere this season. At this point, we simply have to look at improving from week to week.
There are two important factors in this game for the Bears, both of them related. First, how will Rex and the O-line handle the Pack's blitz packages. Second, will Rex learn from his mistakes last week and take what is given without forcing the ball into coverage and getting picked.
I'm gonna predict that we do better than most people expect on offense. Rex will show improvement and play smart.
Favre and Green will be Favre and Green and there ain't shit most defenses can do about it.

This goes right to the point of letting an inferior team hang around, get some confidence, and before you know it, the Packers are in a dogfight.
Sorry, but the false start penalty and drop by Walker are just the things that make close games out of games that should be, if not a cakewalk, but a game that you'd need the rubber underwear for.

The Packers are now in the situation they were last week.
A penalty keeps a drive going and the opposing team cashes it in. How the Packers perform on this drive will go a long way in how this game continues.
If they go 3 and out, be very careful!!!
If they go in and score a touchdown, and it has to be a touchdown, we will see.
That the Packers are even losing at home to this team, is one of the things I warned about earlier in the week: Playing down to the level of the competition.

So this is the first half analysis.
The second quarter absolutely blew.
--Missed FG.
--Fumble on the 3 yard line returned for touchdown.
Other miscues:
--False start penalty on first offensive series stops drive.
--Big drop by Walker on 3rd down.
--Interception.
-2 in turnover battle overall. The odds of winning in the NFL drop precipitously after turning the ball over 3 or more times. And Favre was awfully close to doing that at the end of the half.

I don't see ANY sense of urgency to score here.
When you design your offense to go 18 plays for a score, you're increasing the chances that a mistake on any one play can kill the drive.
And the penalty pushes us back further.

Actually I think they changed the rule this year. If you muff the 1st one its over and the receiving teams gets the ball.

Big time bad luck. Pack is moving the ball almost at will, but not turning it into points, and a fumble on the goal line went all the way back 95 yards for a score for the Bears (14 point swing) so they SHOULD by all accounts be up 17-14.

I agree. I know there's a ton of Sherman apologists who are going to rip me to shreds, but I'm really starting to wonder about Mike as a coach/GM. I think the dual role takes away from what he could do as EITHER if he did it solely. We're winning in the Sherman era DESPITE poor coaching (IMO!!!). This team doesn't play with ANY fire under Mike, and it's really starting to show. Leroy Butler said it best
"Intensity isn't something you can just turn on and off, like a light switch"
I'm sorry, but I don't see that from our team. No urgency, no one lighting a fire under these guys, just Sherman, stoic as always, standing on the sideline with his play sheet in front of his face. We are too complacent, plain and simple, and I don't like it.

I don't have any problems with Sherman as a GM (how can you predict Grady going down like he did so early?), or with his pre-game preparations as a HC...
But, to Sherman's credit, he didn't cause the early mistakes by the team - but his late-game decisions may (and I stress MAY) have cost the team a chance to tie....

My beefs with Sherman revolve around 2 things.
1.) No sense of urgency/intensity.
2.) Game plans that are designed not for the sake of winning, but for the sake of NOT losing. This also falls in the category of unwillingness/inability to finish teams off. Too many time last year we'd be up 6 with 8 minutes to go, have the ball, and run three times into the line and punt, just for the sake of not turning the ball over.
that was pretty disappointing, but it's only one game in a long season. the packers weren't going to go sixteen and oh anyway.
if they can take the lessons of this to heart and keep the sour taste of losing to the friggin' bears at home fresh in their minds, well then maybe this debacle will have been worth it.
i hope they get pissed at themselves and stay pissed for the next 14 games.
maybe they can make up for this with a win in a certain dome that everyone seems to just accept as normal.
